I'm surprised they even bothered making an arrest. Typically in watching Brazilian police I expect them to shoot the everloving crap out of the suspects.
If you've never been to the US and imagine it's some sort of shootouts-with-police-left-and-right, what you're actually picturing is Brazil.

Dumb thieves think a motorcycle carrying 2 people is somehow going to outrun and out corner a motorcycle carrying one person... time after time the result is wipeout.

If you've never been to the US and imagine it's some sort of shootouts-with-police-left-and-right, what you're actually picturing is Brazil. Exactly! IMO, those arrests where filmed on purpose so that the clips from those same arrests could be made available for the general public for PR/Propaganda purposes and as such the Police (which in Brazil it's very hard to distinguish from the real crooks in many cases) executed those arrests somehow "by the book". So yeah, those kind of arrests are definitely not the norm in Brazil (or for most part of the world for that matter).

Brazil has a stupidly high murder/crime rate. I'm surprised we haven't seen a kidnapping or murder at the olympics yet.
Not exactly a fluffy wonderful place.

There was already at least one kidnapping at the Rio's Olympic Village which was executed by perpetrators "dressed as cops". I always laugh at those news from Brazil when the news report say: "<insert your crime here> done by perpetrators dressed as policemen" and this is because in reality the vast majority (if not all) of those crimes are done by elements of the police itself. So the problem with Brazil is not only the stupidly high murder/crime rate but also has a stupidly high corruption rate.

Wow, Brazilian and Canadian. Now that's an interesting mix. I've had interesting times. Why, just 3 days ago in fact my dad received a rather uncivil call from her bruja of a madre, who'd apparently seen me with the new GF, stating between borderline threats that they want to have a sit down with myself and her familia, to discuss why is it that I was cheating on her daughter, who in fact dumped me months ago. Since the ex and her mother refuse to address to each other directly, at least not without throwing household items, there would seem to be somewhat of a communications issue.

Well Crane Hunter....if we don't hear from you in a week or so, we'll know you've been kidnapped by her "familia". Just tell them to send the ransom note to SimHQ's. We'll take up a collection. I have no idea how you ended up with a wife from Brazil, astounding, the problems the guys on this forum can get into. Good luck....with the 'new' GF, and BTW, I wouldn't have a 'sit-down' anywhere near anyone who throws kitchen items at random, just an opinion.

My ex was Brazilian, after dealing with her and her loca familia, I can only imagine what an entire country full of those people is like... Yes, I can imagine that! My wife is Brazilian but I guess that I'm very lucky and this is certainly because she sees her countrymen with a lower regard and I do. It's also a fact that now that she has Portuguese nationality (acquired 8 year ago) she considers herself more Portuguese than Brazilian. So in my honest opinion on the subject (and I hope I'm not hurting someone's feeling) is the following: If you're dating a Brazilian girl make sure that she doesn't regard her country (or even her "culture") too much or else you'll get lots of headaches, believe me. I've seen lots of fellow males here in Portugal (mainly Portuguese but also some Ukrainians) with lots of problems with their Brazilian GF/partner/wife/etc... that while different from the ones mentioned by Crane Hunter they weren't nonetheless "less severe". The problem (and again I hope I'm not hurting someone's feeling) is that many Brazilians in general are nationalistic/xenophobic and see other nationalities has being inferior to them (despite being for the most cases somehow the opposite) so if you end up with a Brazilian GF/partner/wife/etc... which "loves" her country she'll eventually "throw you" words such "Brazil is better than here because blablabla" or "Brazilians are better than you because blablabla" and so on.
