In similar fashion to my other series of old Jane's sims campaign playthroughs, I've embarked on Egypt campaign from classic Jane's Advanced Tactical Fighters.
Here's a playlist, currently 8 missions are completed, 32 to go.
Many times I have tried to fire this up (the Fighter's Anthology version), but it always bothers me that I lose the cockpit ironwork when getting to the higher resolution. The Low Res just looks really bad on my 16:10 LCD
I still have the discs/boxes/manuals for most of the series:
US Navy Fighters +Marine Fighters addon ATF (DOS) +NATO Fighters Addon ATF GOLD Fighters Anthology to fill the gap (USNF '97).
THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!!
Your video looks great!!

Yeah, great timres. I don't have the whole collection (USNF'97 - one CD died so bought another few years ago, Fighters Anthology first release, which I bought in 1998 for my first own earned money, still in mint condition with spiral bound manual, ATF (DOS) which I recently found in a decent condition in big box with flaps, manuals and all that good stuff). Unfortunately the Windows versions doesn't work well (USNF'97, ATF Gold and vanilla FA) on modern PC's. But thanks to DOSBox all the DOS versions are playable. Surprisingly Fighters Anthology with applied official patch 1.02 works out of the box on Windows 10 (sans the videos of the Ukraine Campaign which are low-res but there is a fix for that).
The cockpit artwork missing in higher resolutions is probably due to the fact that no one really played in 1024x768 at the time due to the fact that it would be a slideshow even on high-end PC's of that era. So no one really bothered making the art. There is a bug in Fighters Anthology that if you try to fly one (or both?) of the easter egg aircrafts, Atomic Moth or the pterodactyl-thing, can't recall, while resolution is set to 800x600 the game will crash trying to load the cockpit art for that aircraft and that resolution. In 640x480 there is no such problem. Note that cockpit art for 800x600 was added later, around the time NATO Fighters came out (or ATF, not sure).

How time and technology doth fly!!! Until last year, I still had the 17" CRT that I had originally played these games on.
I remember building missions with the Atomic Moths!!

I hear you Recluse. I had a great Trinitron CRT monitor that I bought with a dell pc around 2002 and used it for years. I dare say it had better image quality than the flat screen lcd monitor I use now.

I bought Hind from gog.com but it looked so bad on my LCD that I returned it for a refund. Couldn't even make out the ground targets properly. If you run it at 1:1 pixel scaling then it is sharp but is just a tiny game window so that is no good either.
I do have Jane's ATF on my HDD right now but haven't ran it in a long time.

Interesting. I recall getting HIND up and running on my LCD and it looked OK. Of course I spent more time in a futile quest to get the 3DFx version working than actually PLAYING it, so perhaps I would have come to the same realization as you did.
Honestly, I can never make out ground targets in DCS World either!!!!

I'm not sure what graphics settings GOG version use in their dosbox.conf setting, but you could edit it to make it look more crispy without the bilinear filtering that is propably happening to the pixels.
For my DOSBox games I usually use:
[sdl] fullscreen=true fullresolution=1920x1080 (my desktop resolution, use your monitor's native resolution) output=overlay (gives that crisp look to pixels, in contrast opengl applies bilinear filtering)
[render] aspect=true (correct aspect ratio for non-square-pixel resolutions like 320x200/640x400) scaler=normal2x
These settings you can see in my recent videos.

For those interested, Fighters Anthology is still being played and improved by a group of us dedicated players. Over the last few years, I have built several new campaigns, including historical Vietnam campaigns, and made improvements to the existing campaigns (except Kuril campaign), as well as improvements to aircraft, weapons, etc...
You can read more on my website, and download the updates.
