Until recently EAW has suffered from having to use 30 different planes. I was looking at the AVG history, and it would be nice to make a small Flying Tigers planeset, using skins like these. Which aircraft do people think would be appropriate? The lists of AVG kills is interesting. Jel

Mike,
Originally I was of the opinion that being ex RAF machines they had Sky undersurfaces as shown on the painting instructions for the ancient Frog kit 60 or so years ago, but most literature these days shows a grey colour as you have used. Any idea if it was RAF/RN Sky Grey as it looks perhaps a bit light for US Neutral Gray? If they repainted the bottom in US colours I am surprised they did not repaint the top as well. ( Later after doing a bit of checking I see that the planes never reached the UK but were diverted from a batch still in the states so perhaps they were painted in the US version of Dark Green/Dark Earth and a light Grey used for a lot of Lend Lease aircraft I believe).
Whatever it is,it looks good. I suppose we will need some RAF Buffalos and the odd Hurricane for that theatre/period as well, not to mention the opposition - Ki-21, Ki-30, Ki-43 (few initially), Ki-44 (very few on test), Ki- 46 (perhaps) and Ki-51 I guess. Can't recall if they met any JNAF planes but I am sure somebody will enlighten me - I know the Ki-43 was sometimes mistaken for the A6M2. I do not seem to recall a G3M bomber in EAW?
Pete

Several points to ponder. 1st. These Curtis Hawks 81-A (aka P-40 C) are from a model developed by Col. Gibbon and used in my RAF Tomahawk Squadron. 2nd. I will post jpgs of the rest of Adam and Eve shortly. Then I'll post The Panda Bears, 2nd Pursuit Squadron, Hells Angels is still in progress. So, there will be 48 skins representing the AVG when I have finished. 3rd. There is a shortage of Japanese machines. 4th. A campaign, FMs, etc. need to be put together. All except for the skins are above my pay grade.

When I checked the 'net re- the AVG missions I found only the following Japanese planes mentioned: Ki-21 Sally Ki-27 Nate Ki-30 Ann Ki-43 Oscar Ki-45 Nick Ki-48 Lily The Sally and Lily I got from VBH's PacTide 3 The Oscar and Nick I got from SPAW The Ann and Nate I got from China So it is a deliberately limited planeset experiment, and it seems to be working. Multiskin versions would be even better Ray, please send me your Ki-27 and Ki-48 for me to check out. I will add them both in extra slots

Hi Tony,
The Ki 48 seems to be a repainted Ju88 - a problem that I expect you will find with a lot of the older generation Japanese models which as I recall were based on Ju88, Fw190A and Me110. Of course they will do in the absence of anything better but I guess Ray might wish to do some of his re-modelling. I await the outcome with interest as I have a thing about Japanese planes (as well as Hampdens)! Incidentally my research suggests that Ki-45 were not in theatre until the 16th Sentai arrived with its Ki 45 KAIa's in November 1942.

With increasing age should come wisdom and tolerance, but as the saying goes, "there is no fool like an old fool" as I prove regularly!
