OK, on the subject of my colors, I have used the same system for skinning for years without complaint unless my source was off. FranZee was very good at offering suggestions for correcting my Luftwaffe stuff. My choice of bright reds, yellow and blues for 8th AF Mustangs and T-bolts were criticised until I offered photographic evidence of the machines. When I painted IJN and IJAF props maroon I was criticised until again I presented photographic evidence.
The color chart I used for the I-16 is I believe off for many of the numbers but, it is too bright rather than bright enough. And, in 1940-41 the Russian Airforce was concerned about identification of its' machines rather than camos. The dark green (AII Green) is reminiscent of the colors for Imperial Army coats of the 17 and 1800's. Even after it started issuing specs for camos the colors were still strange from a black green to the light pea green. Exactly..The paint Police can go jump..

Thanks IM for considering the feedback (not criticized) of the colors. Mark, Thank you for clarifying your original post. There is noting wrong with posting your opinion. It is difficult to give opinions with the typed post. I do not apologize for my snarky post. I stand by the questions I posted as a rebuttal. I have managed to revert to beer and tobacco as my only drugs, but I still TWI. If you or others think I am an attack dog or an arse, then so be it. I am a rivet counter and post my honest opinion. I think "looks good" is a disservice to the modder. I am sure I have offended every EAW modder.I just thought you deserve respect for your clarification.

Hi Spitty,
That seems about right to me. The best book I have on the subject says the AII Blue would have been somewhat more vivid initially but quickly faded, so maybe this is A 28m blue which was paler, and the various early greens range from the "standard" AII Green which is a bit more yellow, to the "Army 4BO Green" which I think this could be, and then to "Factory Green" whioh seems to be a little darker, and to a really dark bluish green which seems to be AII Dark Green. Of course the Soviets then introduced a new range of colours and the green here could be AMT 4 Green or A 24m Green.
The notorious "Tractor Green" seems to be much paler than either I or White Ensign thought when producing their version a few years ago.
At the end of the day there were so many variations actually used that as long as it looks right who cares?
Pete

Hi guys, Just for a laugh here is my take on a few "standard" colour schemes from about 4 years ago. I have aquired a couple of better sources since then so if I ever do the next batch - I 16, La 5FN, Pe 2 an d Il 2m I might change the greens and the blues a little, but not much. They are very old kits painted by a geriatric with arthritic hands so I know they are not brilliant by modern standards, but I am happy with them. Pete
