Hum, ironmike, are you running on LSD ? Or more probably, It seems to me your talent needs better historical sources concerning soviet warplanes colors. Check here : http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/ S! Lolo

Hi Lolo Kramp. I did not want to mention the colours. They looked to me to be a bit bright, unless you used Woolworths household gloss paint. Sorry Mike!

Hi Guys,
I have been building model aircraft for 60 years and the more books I get the more I realise that colour is a "grey area"! Yes the blue was a bit vivid for my tastes but the greens are very hard to be sure of. The old White Ensign paints I used for my kits are supposedly quite accurate but their basic topside green is a bit "greyer" than I was expecting, certainly compared with the old "Humbrol Authentic" version I have. However you have to allow for different manufacturers of the paint, and differences between batches even from the same manufacturer, not to mention different ways of mixing and applying in the field, weathering, and logistic problems resulting in non standard paint being used quite often - for example the yellowish green "tractor" paint.
As to calibrating monitors, that seems a good idea - but we cannot calibrate our eyes, so perhaps we all see the colours in slightly different ways - I certainly know people who see green as blue for example. Then, as any modeller will know there is the problem of so called "scale colour" which I won't go into other than saying that the smaller the object the lighter it should be painted to resemble the full scale plane. For example we are told never to use true black, but to use instead a dark grey.
Incidentally I don't think comments about drugs are very helpful.
Pete

Your dealing with memory colours, V "That was what they used", V The model colours are right!, V a million other opinions. IMPS are one of the best sources, but even they look a bit bright, but brand new, out of the tin they might have used these colours. http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_soviet.htmSo then we move on here: http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/colors/humbrol/greens.htmAnd more! http://www.cybermodeler.com/color/vvs_comp.shtml
