So, first impressions -

Damage points, too hard, too easy?

Much difference from plane to plane flight characteristics or do they all feel the same?

Dive limits? Too low, too high?

Take off?

Landings?

Slow speed handling?

Stalls?

Spins?

Noticeable difference in flight characteristics after bomb drops?

That's a lot to ask after one flight but I'm eager to hear what another virtual pilot thinks.

I will say, they look darn good thanks to the skinners' talents and my efforts to fix the rendering issues. As I've said before I built them 90% for their addition to the WWII scenarios and 10% to showcase them for any modder willing to take on the WWI project.

That was a quick airstart test of the planeset in which I tried the Fury. It handled well, but I am used to flying the SAW Fury.
The CR-20 AIs gave me a good run for my money, and seemed to take a mot of damage, however, I did not encounter the Avias.
In the Fury I did not spin or stall.

It will be good when more people try 150 and fly these planes smile

FWIW, I didn't think much of the SAW Fury when I was setting things up. Seemed "sloggy" when I tried it out.

I went a different direction because I was trying to up the nimble factor with the planes.

In fact while reading up on the various planes I found out even the Swordfish was quite a handful for opposing pilots. Not so much because they were dangerous opponents but that they handled so well it was hard to shoot them down.

Well, keep having fun and get your flyboys to try them out too.

Thanks.

Ray,
Have you read Dart's thread about his home built Nieuport 11? It's been interesting to read his comments about tail dragers, how he ground looped it the first try at fast taxi, and the flight characteristics.

If you have not, I would start with page 30 (the ground loop):

I made a new planeset with just the bi-planes.
I flew an offline airstarted intercept in the allied fighters against the He45

Fantome: Fast and destructive
Fury: Well matched
Demon: Too slow, could not catch them
Gauntlet: Quite fast, worked well
Bulldog: Seemed to have the speed, lost a lot in the turn and overheated a bit too easily trying to regain speed and altitude to catch them.
Sea Gladiator: Sale as the Bulldog.

I will now try the reverse with the axis fighters after an allied bomber wink

The only allied bombers in the set were the Gordon and the Sworsfish.
They were both a bit slow so I added a TBD for the test which was similar to the He45 in speed.

Cr20: Too slow, could not catch the TBDs.
Cr 32: Well matched.
Cr 42: Good, well matched.
He45: Too slow when speed lost.
He51: Good.
Avia BH33: Difficult to regain lost speed after a turn
Avia B354: Not available for selection may be set as AI only?

Send us some feedback please Russ, Ray really needs some re his FMs smile

Do you find the GUI easy to use, and do you like the possibility of picking the planes independently of the theatre?

Now that I have a grip on the biplane rendering problem I have a few models I'd like to add to the mix of pre-WWII planes:

F2A Buffalo
Curtiss F11C Goshawk
CW Model 21
Republic P-41/P-43
Curtis SBC Helldiver
Grumman F2F/F3F
Boeing F4B/P-12
Grumman F5F Skyrocket

We'll see how it goes.

The F2A, P-66 and P-43 are complete
The F2F/F3F can be built from the hi-res F4F model without too much fiddling.
The F11C, F4B and SBC Helldiver would probably be made from one of the existing biplane models.
In fact the only one that would be a real challenge would be the F5F.

But first I have to finish the Lanc for the Dambuster add on.
