Just like the movie "Flight" and the crucifixion of the Pilot for saving so many. It happened
and the powers that be want to hang someone for it.

Edit; No personal insults, keep it on the topic, not the poster.

When you start comparing fantasy to reality, there might be a problem.

Hanks sure has been busy lately. He was quite excellent in "Bridge of Spies".

Linebacker, this place usually doesn't see this kind of personal attacks. Please keep it that way...

Agreed Colonel, and we usually give our senior members, 'ONE' warning.

This is it.

He's put out a lot of crap lately. I haven't seen Bridge of Spies, however.

I believe the public's perception of an individual is accurately depicted by who they cast to play that person in the event they make a movie about them.

If Hollywood casts Tom Hanks to play you, you are beloved indeed. Now, if they had chosen Johnny Depp or Val Kilmer... biggrin

Hanks in that role looks a lot older than the real Sullenberger. smile

Unfortunately this is life now. Anytime anything goes wrong, there must be someone held accountable...even if we're pretty darn sure it was the geese fault.

I never read the crash report, but just watching the trailer I heard mention that one of the two engines was still operating. Today's aircraft are designed as an emergency safety feature to be able to fly on one engine. On paper, if one engine is operational, he might have been able to return to the airport.

However, I also saw that he had just taken off and had only reached an altitude of 2800ft, so I know he wasn't up to a decent speed when the incident occurred. One engine only isn't meant for takeoffs...only to get a plane down safely.

At first when I saw there was a movie being made for this I thought "why?". Watching the trailer, it doesn't look too bad. I'll wait for TV though. smile

Any multi engine aircraft certified for commercial passenger transport can lose one engine already on the runway, at a speed that allows it to either stop on the remaning runway, or take off safely.

Problem is when both are damaged and producing partial thrust. Then all bets are off and you get to play test pilot.

I'm not arguing at all. It's a few compounded situations in the mix for the one engine scenario. On paper or even a sim everything "should" work out just fine, however, taking off and barely reaching a departure altitude and speed, and then hitting a flock of geese...all bets are off.

Val Kilmer these days is just happy to be cast at all.
