Yep, there was a distinctly satisfying sound to those old adding machines.
Amazing! As a lover of mathematics (which is one of the reasons I studied computer engineering), I never really considered mechanical computing of this magnitude. Analog and digital computing, yes... mechanical computing no. Thanks for posting this.

I remember reading somewhere that when the Iowa-class BBs were recommissioned in the 80s, their analog fire control computers were faster than the digital models on newer ships.
