What do you actually want to do? There are different utilities and methods for converting skins and converting flight model files. Do you still have access to the Coders' FTP server?

I have a new instrument panel to test in a hs 129. I need to load the whole plane into the 140 test version you made, but all the files need to be converted to the "plane" naming format. Yes, I have access to the ftp.

For your needs use a program called MogProg. Simple but effective.
Make a work folder and unzip the contents there.
You will need to make one small edit.
In the text file named planecodes.txt change the last line "V1V1" to "lane".
Next place all the files you want to convert into the work folder and run the program. The rest is straight forward. All the program does is replace the four characters like "P38H" with the four character "lane". Note that the "P is not included because that character remains the same.
MogProg with work on the pcx files and 3dz files but you will need to manually convert the cpt file and the vcg file, which is straight forward.
I can send it to you as it's a very small program.
