The old and new map forms of the UAW140 exe version 90 are available in a 7-zip "V90.exe" from the OneDrive page.
Run it in your EAW140 folder and it will put the two new exes in the "EAW Versions" folder

Why V90?
A result of working to get Moggy's multi-TMod carriers running in convoys was the discovery of two bugs. One was almost trivial. I had noticed it previously, when it looked as though an extra ship had spawned in a convoy.
The other was more serious. I had set the three US carriers in a convoy, but I only ever saw one. I assumed wrongly that the error was in the files I had created to make the convoy. However, this morning I tested the exe on some different convoys that I new had worked well in the past, and the problem remained. Somehow a source code file had been corrupted, but without generating an error. Replacing the file fixed the problem. At the same time I was able to find what was causing an extra ship to spawn, so I fixed that.

Here are the three US carriers off the East Anglian coast:

This confirms that the code is working as it should smile

Hi Jelly,

Looking good!

Just as a matter of interest, I see no smoke coming from the ship funnels (OK I know that is not what this thread is about but your pics reminded me). Can we get smoke from the funnels? I was wondering what would happen with the Japanese carriers at Midway as they all have funnels mounted along the side below deck level!

We do get smoke if the target is moving. Unfortunately at this juncture the moving ships are targets only, you can't land on them.

So there's a choice to be made by target set makers.

Moving ships - do smoke but they are targets only.

Static ships - no smoke, can be targeted and landable.

That's not to say that adding smoke to static objects isn't doable, I think there have been some programming forays into that. Might even be a mod to that affect for all I know.

It is really up to me to get the code working, but to the modders to fix the graphics.
This was my first try with Moggy's three US carriers together.
There are still things to be fixed.

I will say that having smoke streaming from the static ships would certainly help the illusion of movement.

I know that adding wakes to the models helped but that was a mere 3dz edit.

Not sure how we fix the graphics. I don't think we can use the existing smoke because it streams aft on moving objects but goes straight up on stationary ones.

Didn't we deal with the smoky tmods issue long since - there are adjustments that can be made in tmodXX.dat which will give static tmods smoke and optional fire? I have burning ships and buildings in the Dunkirk revision.

Is the game aware of wind in some way? The mission briefing screen does show a wind speed. Is this used for fuel consumption calculations? Could it be used to deflect rising smoke columns?

When Wuddy wanted to code the engine start/smoke/dust, some how, and after loads of failures, he got the effect of prop wash, which made the effect go backwards from the plane. Try any take off and you will see the effect.

Now, the effect of smoke going backwards is not there, but the basic idea is. All it needs is a bit of thought to adapt Wuddy's code.

BTW. Did you document the standing smoke effect? Factories and Power Stations were something we have tried for years, to add smoke to, but we had always been told, no movement = no smoke.

The standing smoke for tmods was something I worked on with Ralf when we were doing 128E/F. He managed to get it working, and its in 129 and presumably 140. It uses otherwise unused settings in the tmod data files. For any tmod you can add white/grey/black smoke, set the volume and height, and add flames as well.

I wanted it so I could have a burning Dunkirk with the black smoke rising from the burning oil tanks:

So, stationery smoke works, just add wind for effect.

Hi Moggy,

Impressive! I am not too bothered about smoke from ships, but this business with the Japanese carriers crossed my mind, given the unusual location of the funnels. I am happy to let you brainy chaps do whatever you think appropriate. From what Ray said there does seem to be the question of carriers being targets on the one hand, and having planes taking off and landing on the other, so perhaps smoke is not worth bothering with, but it does add to the visual impact.
