Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
That's bad frown

We were talking about it yesterday but these are the first pictures I've seen of it.

It was heavy, heavy, rain here yesterday and our garden was under water for a little while as it could not soak away fast enough. My sis-in-law was here complaining about her toilet and that the water had started to back up through it, other friends had their cellars flooded, I'm glad I re-positioned the vents for mine last year as we had a little flooding then.

It is the people that took over our last house I'm wondering about, as the drains back up badly there, I've seen the water coming out of the sink drain like a fountain. I put in a relief drain to let the water empty at the back of the garden and anything "solid" would be far enough away from the house not to be a health hazard until I could clean it away.

2 years ago the waterboard dug up the old sewers and put in new ones but they still get flooding coming back up out the drains, it is a problem of being on flat ground, there is no real slope to give a natural drainage.

The water table here at this house is about 12m below ground level so normally we don't flood but my wife's old house which is less than 1km away the water table is less than a meter and it can flood badly.

Yeah, we got some pretty bad weather the last couple of days. Was driving on the Autobahn yesterday when a thunderstorm hit, visibility was suddenly reduced to mere meters because of the massive downpour. Felt like driving into a wall of water. Very unfunny.

That's really terrible. RIP to the people who have died.

Mother nature isn't just done yet - yesterday it hit south-eastern Germany and neighbouring Austria, today it's western Germany, France and other places as well:

Forecasts for the next days indicate that it may continue for a couple more days, but those extremes are usually fairly local events - hart to predict if and where...

We have been fighting the flooding of our house and cellar since yesterday afternoon. So after an all nighter we have been reasonably succesful, though the cellar walls are drenched and ruined. But more heavy rains are on the way.

Sorry to hear about that Quantum. I hope you and your home make it through ok after the rain is done.

We got a spell of sun for an hour or two this afternoon but the clouds have closed back over, hope we don't get another night of thunder and lightning, it has been on and off for the past 2 days and nights, today has been the first dry day since Sunday.

Wife was just saying "If I had wanted this weather, I would have moved to Scotland..."

nice!

`Thank you for your concern. We were able to prevent serious flooding, but the cellar walls are ruined and will need to be fixed from the outside. I foresee lot's of digging to make them floodproof...or should I say climate change proof? confused

Thankfully though nothing else was damaged
