In the small Quebec village of Knowlton, on Lac Brome near the Vermont border, there is a DVII still with its original fabric. Brought to Canada as a war trophy, it's been in the town museum since the 20s.
That Memorial Flight DVIIF is striking--love the lozenge and Jasta 4 markings--but that particular Udet plane didn't have stripes on the wing, and it wasn't an F. Seems these repro guys build a lovely plane and then paint it whatever they want, with little-to-no regard for accuracy. As I always say, it's like building a B-17G and then painting it to look like the Memphis Belle. Still, that's a great photo.
All those noses came up fast after power application. That's why you see guys holding down the tails when they ran up the engines.

Yup, that is a lot of air suddenly blasting along a very lightweight empennage and lifting surface. Tends to make it come up right now if you are not mindful.
Beautiful aeroplane even with the incorrect livery. Oh to have Kermit Weeks' working capital and free time to spend on such a hobby, eh?

Who cares about the livery... what a great photo... I have only immense admiration for all of these people that can get these aeroplanes in the air, repro or not! I'll be interested to see how Kermit gets on with his DVII, what a great job he has

Powerful WWII tail-draggers also needed weight on the tail to stop them nosing over. There is that wonderful true story of a WAAF who was taken on a whole circuit on the tail of a Spitfire when she forgot to let go
