About a month after having to go to the unlimited bandwidth (for like $30/mo) with Comcast due to 4 bandwidth hogs living here, Comcast sent a notice that they're going to up their cap from 300GB to 1 TB starting in June.
When I signed up to avoid overage charges, they asked why I thought we were hitting the cap. I told them 300GB for a family of 4 was fine 5 years ago, but now with everyone streaming at the same time, cells switched to our wifi at home to save on data, game consoles, several tablets, laptops, a desktop, Kindles, 2 smart tvs, 2 DirecTv receivers...often 10-15 devices online at one time....300 GB isn't keeping up with the times for 4 or more people and exponentially more devices. I don't mind caps as long as they take into account what serious users will use, non-commercially and not abusively. "A TB would be more like it to cover the next few years" is what I told them.
So I guess you Comcast/Xfinity users can all thank me. Clearly they knew who to ask and wisely took my advice.

I've hit my 300gb cap every month this year sofar. I am glad they are going to 1TB for the cap but I dont think it has anything to do with what their customers want and everything to do with the FCC threatening them.

I don't stream movies or tv shows so I've never come close to hitting my cap.

Time Warner Cable (soon to be Charter Spectrum) has issues I hate, but they are few and far between. And having a data cap is NOT one of them, thankfully.

I use around 100 gigs a month just on my PC alone. 1080p60 Youtube content really eats it up. Thankfully Comcast doesn't have data caps here.

That crap really needs to just end. It's a complete racket just like long distance telephone call charges had become years and years after the infrastructure had been paid for.

It's the streaming that gets us the most too.
After we got the unlimited deal, I dropped my device schedules on my router. Looks like things got crazy after that. We doubled our usage hitting about 900 GB. I think the kids are falling asleep with streaming going on, or leaving it going during the day. That and being Summer, they'll be here using a lot more bandwidth.
I guess I'll keep the unlimited deal at least until school starts. And have a family meeting, this is ridiculous. Back to the router again.

What really irritates me about the concept of caps (beyond the caps themselves) is that ADS that you don't even want count against that too.

Not so much of a problem on my PC and home internet connection percentage wise, but I swear on my phone half the bandwidth is sucked up by ads. Fortunately I don't do a lot of mobile browsing and thus rarely approach that cap, but when I'm out of town I sure can - and mostly because of ADS.

I've always felt that way about it too. It's almost like paying the postage to get junk mail.
