I don't know if I did something wrong but I'm confused by something. In pre-release videos of the game and in current screenshots from other players, Geralt has different sets of clothing with long flowing cloaks. I don't know what these armor sets are called but I'm at level 34, I'm assuming at around 60 hours into the game, and getting ready to take all the sorceress girls and the elf sage up against Eredin in the main quest line. I've not seen these outfits available for sale anywhere yet. I haven't even found anything that resembles them.

Am I missing something? I don't know how much of the main quest line I still have left but I want to have these clothes. It actually wasn't until recently as I recall that I could even wear better armor because of some leveling up you had to do along side a side quest involving the dwarven armorer. The best armor that I've been able to acquire is the Witcher Wolf gear out fit and a low level set of Griffen armor.

I'm just trying to find where to get these outfits without running into any possible spoilers. I don't know how much of the main quest there is left but I'd sure like in particular, this piece of clothing to enjoy before the game concludes. Its the one we always saw in trailers for the game:

I think some of the outfits are only available from the DLC's. Did you buy and install all available DLC's for the game?

There are five different schools and thus armor sets available in the base game. Wolf, Viper (Swords only, Armor is in HoS), Bear, Cat, Griffin. You either find the diagrams by luck in all kinds of places, or you find an armorer selling maps to those places. The one you are looking for is a basic version of one of these schools. I don't want to tell you much more since you said a minimum of spoilers...

Truth to be told though you are pretty high level and it will require a lot of looking for materials to bring that one up onto your level.

I only just started playing last week (had to finish the other two first). Yesterday was the first day I figured out you could upgrade armor. Now I have to track down all that crap I sold and hope it is still there cause there were some good pieces that would probably make great armor if upgraded a bit.

I used a mix of armour sets according to what I thought I'd meet.

Early game, Griffin vs monsters, Temerian and then Nilgaardian dlc vs humans.
Later game, Ursine vs monsters, Undik dlc vs humans.
HOS - either late game or Viper.

I'd add variations to the core set to improve the resistances level, and upgrade as I went... and for a few monsters still return to Griffin set for the elementa protection.

Not much else is worth the trouble to wear - I collect and sell them on to fund runewords and equipment upgrading and repair. Assassin gauntlets and Elder Boots are worth using too.

The rune upgrades for swords are great. I've visited that Olifieri merchant many times!

Oh, I missed the Undik one.

Rune Upgrades seem like a cool idea but... at that point in the game, what do you use them for? You'll be done with the mainquest and HoS before you can pay for decent upgrades?

Master, how long did it take you to finish the first two? I've just started the original Witcher.

Took me from when witcher 3 was announced until two weeks ago but mostly because I hated every second of actually playing the first one and most of the time I played the second one.

They were just not very good games IMO and the story line didnt make any sense at all (for the most part). It is a good thing that the third one is massively better. It made playing those other two worth while but honestly if you dont much care for the story then just watch a recap video on youtube for the first 2 games then start playing #3.

I'm actually enjoying 1 quite a bit (maybe because it's been years since I played an RPG) so hopefully it will take me less than a year. wink

I didnt like the combat or movement very much. The first game was horrible to play. Basically you were just clicking a million times and switching between light/heavy attack. The second game the combat became a bit more fluid and was almost enjoyable but still shallow. In the third game though it feels very fluid and there is a lot to it.

It might be that I just didnt give the first two enough time or credit or I just had a chip on my shoulder about them but for whatever reason I just hated them. But I had to play them in order to get the story for the third biggrin

I'm okay with someone telling me the name of the outfit of the picture I posted. That way I can at least keep my eye out for it.

BlueHeron, I'm still making my way through the first Witcher. I tried years ago but couldn't quite stay in it. I played and really got into Witcher 2 and played it through twice. Upon hearing of Witcher 3 I made an effort to get into Witcher 1. It took a bit of grinding on my part but eventually I got into it big time and got used to the combat system and quirks. I love the characters and stories though I don't understand it all. So before Witcher 3 I played through Witcher 2 again and got about 40 hours into Witcher 1 before starting Witcher 3.

I now have 64 hours into Witcher 1. I originally used a mod to help combat and visuals and unbeknownst to me at the time, I didn't realize it also made it rediculously hard even on easy settings. I eventually figured this out and reinstalled only the mod parts that helped with combat and visuals and that did not effect the game's vanilla difficulty level. I was wondering why I was having such a hard time progressing.

I now run it using Rise of the White Wolf mod and I like it a lot.

It's the base Ursine Armor you are looking for.

Agreed, the combat is weird and took some getting used to. I think I also like the more focused game play as opposed to The Elder Scrolls where you are drowning in many active quests at any given time. I really liked TES, but surprisingly enjoy The Witcher far more.

From what you are saying I can't wait to see what The Witcher 3 brings to the table!

IMHO, Witcher 3 is by far the best game of the series.

Thanks RSColonel. I must have gotten off on a track that just happened to keep that a mystery to me. All I've seen in my game is if memory serves, is Ursine pants or gloves and a diagram for the Ursine sword. I've not seen anything related to the cloak(chest armor).

On a related note, has the guy or gal who wrote the music for the Witcher series won any awards? I sure hope so. The music in the Witcher games is some of the best I've ever heard for any PC game.

It's excellent, and a few pieces from the second game make great non-obnoxious alarm clock music wink

Of course, I save the Dark Souls respawn/Firelink theme for work days.
