Just tried EAW on 800 x 600 on my Dell 5000, and EAW runs fine, but then I have a graphics card. I have an Intel chip on my motherboard, but I can't use it, because I have no drivers installed. I suppose tomorrow, I could try the on board graphics, to see if this is a chip problem.

Which Win OS are you running?

I'm pretty sure they only have drivers for those generation of intel chips, upto Win7.

Windows Vistas /service pack 1

It's got to be something simple because it has worked on this PC.

I don't use the PC for anything but EAW modding and some internet surfing so there haven't been any driver updates. I don't fiddle around with any settings either.

I have strict internet safety protocols so it's not a Trojan or a virus.

Basically the PC is in the same state as it's always been.

The only thing I can think of is Win registry settings are wrong.

Make sure there's no compatibility tab settings set on the shortcut AND directly on the eaw.exe. Best to delete the shortcut and check the eaw.exe directly by right clicking it, and clear any compat settings.

Then rename your EAW folder to something else and download the free CCleaner and run the full register cleaner part of the program, it cleans out most of the left over EAW registry settings that Windows puts in when you run eaw.exe.

Thanks guys.

It's frustrating that it worked and now it doesn't.

Ray, have you tried booting into "Safe Mode"? mycomputer

This only loads the basic drivers and no frills. There may be something loading that compromised the glide wrapper. Start the machine and press F8 when the cursor first appears.

Don't feel bad Ray, I have the exact same problem on the Dell Dimensions 3000 that I garbage picked over the winter.

Just checking on this comment. Can you run in 1024x768 in d3d or do you get the "your card cannot support..." error message?

The reason I ask is that when Zeus added the Glide3 code he made it clear that the "eaw.ini" must be set to the default 1024x768 resolution for the glide wrapper to work properly for EAW. If your monitor cannot support this then maybe that is the core of the problem.

I reckon the change to Glide 3, and Ray's on board graphics, are the problem.

Most of us have graphic cards, and they allow a lot more flexibility, than those blasted Intel chips.

We always suffered with 7217 with the old chips, and buying a cheap card was the solution, and I think Ray will have to splash some cash to sort this.

I was mistaken on one thing.

I have both the EAW.ini file and d3d Windower set to 1024 x 768, not 800 x 600.

I switched to 800 x 600 to see what happens and the game runs fine, just in a smaller window.

When I switch to Glide I get the "Glide Init" error in both window sizes.

Also, couldn't get that utility to run. Clicked on it, got the hour glass icon for 5 seconds or so and then nothing.

Tony, I sent you my attempt to get the HR Mosquito working in Glide mode. Really all I need is confirmation that the experiment was successful or not so could you test fly it and check for the reversed elements?

If it is successful we would have the ability to fix single engine planes using the Buffalo template and twin engine planes using the Mosquito template.

I will check out the Mossie wink
Because of screen and map corruption in Win 7 I use the d3d windower.
However, I have height and width both set to zero in the windower configuration
This forces it to display in the natural resolution:

However, as the selection screens are 1024x768 this might not be appropriate in your case wink

Thanks for checking the Mossie.

I did notice that the screen displayed as defined in the ini file if the Windower is set to zero.

1024 x 768 works fine with my set up.

Eh, well the mixed colors are MY mistake not a Glide issue.

That wing element IS a Glide issue.

How about from underneath the plane?
