I know this has been asked before but those threads are dated and hardware development marches on.
The need has become clear that having rudder pedals for certain aircraft (like the Dr.1) would be highly beneficial.

Anyone have recommendation for (preferably non-Saitek) rudder pedals? Functionality at a cheap price is a bonus!

Duke, what is your joystick ?
I preordered Saitek X56, the joystick already has Z axis, but i'm also interested in rudder pedals in the near future.
I am / was affarid i can't get used to play with peddals
Thank you

Why non-Saitek??? I have them, and they never failed me in all the years.

I am currently using a TM 16000.M on Olham's recommendation. Good stick!
The reason I needed a new stick was I couldn't get my Saitek X52 Pro to work with my new computer. Big problem if you Google it and Saitek Support was worthless.

As a side note I should try it again with W10 and post-Driver Booster.

Anyway if you guys are willing to vouch for the Saitek pedals I don't mind being adventurous. And my X52 Pro may be useable again. I'll know this weekend.

It would appear, after some quick looking around, that the Saitek pedals I can get (in stock) are approx. $200.00.
This is a little more then I wished to spend on what, at this time anyway, is kind of a experiment to see how I like rudder pedals in general.

Anyone use the CH Pro USB pedals? I can get a set of those for less then a $100.00.

Have not used the CH Pro - reason I did not get them is that they appear to be narrow.

The Saitek Pro Pedals work good for me.

You found NEW Saitek in stock for $200??

Others that I am aware of.

Thrustmaster

Saitek - pretty much out of stock everywhere - have been for quite some time.
No idea if they are actually shipping.
Possibly purchase on ebay prices are crazy?

The pedals are closer together there, but AFAIK they are good hardware.
Not available on AMAZON here, but in AMAZON UK they have 5 stars.
For 100 bucks, I'd say: get them!

Thank you gentlemen and thank you Stache for the details. Glad to see us MI boys sticking together.
In any case as a "rudder pedal test run" I decided to give the CH Pro a try.
Should be here beginning of next week - just in time for vacation!

Duke, I've been using the whole CH gear package FS/PT/PP since they were all pre-USB connectors and then changed over to the USB versions 14 years ago. I am still using the same 3 units literally thousands of hours later. CH gear is durable and functional... It was mentioned that the Pro Pedals are narrow. Not sure where that idea came from. They are, if anything overly wide. Also, they do have the ability to set individual port and starboard toe-brakes. Not useful in WoFF or RoF, but sweet in WWII sims that support them. They can also be used with driving sims as throttle and brake pedals.

Never having had to set them up with any other brands of stick, I can't help you on that...

Rick

PS. The only thing I have had to do to any one of the three controllers in 14 years is change out a pot for the throttle main handle on the Pro Throttle.

Hi, That was just my thoughts when I was purchasing.

For example this shows there is about 13" inch's outside pedal to outside pedal.
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1078354&postcount=4

The Saitek Pro Flight Pedals are 16"

Just seemed like they could be a little cramped.

Yea that is a slight concern.
I am a big lad and probably don't sit in a perfectly upright position.
Perhaps if it gets to be a big issue I can probably rig something...maybe.

Yes, slight less, width is ~12.20" (31cm) - distance between pedals is 2.16" (5.5cm).

Approximate measures, source: http://www.checksix-fr.com/articles/Arti...der_Pedals.html

CH width is 13" and distance between pedals looks 1/3 of width, maybe ~3.5".

BTW - VKB T-Rudder don't have brakes, but their T.Link software allow set a button in joystick as brake for both wheels and adjust differential brakes with rudder pedal movement.

I do all my flying barefoot and the CH pedals (the pedals themselves) are a good deal wider than my feet, nor do my toes reach the end. The raised heel cup is a delight as it means you don't need to keep a firm pressure on the pedal all the time and so it is easier to 'feather' the rudder for a nice light port/starboard control. Over the years this ability to finely adjust targeting with light rudder control has resulted in more hits and thus more kills.

Not having used other pedals, I can't compare, but the CH Pros do not 'feel' small at all.

Rick

Perfect. Thanks Rick for the info.
Have to say I am kind of stoked about having pedals...in theory.
The "twist stick" concept is workable and I have used one for years but I find, during frantic manuvers, I offtimes end up with inadvertent rudder input.

This is a most opportune thread, as I too am looking seriously at buying rudder pedals.

I currently have a Microsoft MMF2 joystick. Have had it since 2004, never given any trouble. A great stick, but the twist grip rudder is a limitation.

Like Duke I too am looking at the CH product. Just wondering does anyone know if the MMF2 stick is compatible?I really don't want to have to but a new stick too.:)

The pedal is a independent controller than joystick (or standalone throttle), one dont depend/interfere on other.

You can use Joystick MS FFB2, pedal from CH and throttle from Thrustmaster.

The only issue is when the game support only one controller, like old sim's or FPS with flight "things" like Battefield's.

Pips, the rudder will not interfere with any joystick.
You just need to "unbind" all input commands from both joystick and rudder,
and then you select each controller and "bind" the desired actions to it.
Especially important is, to "unbind" the rudder function from the twist stick,
and then to "bind" it to the pedals.
The WOFF menue is great there.

For most WW1 planes rudder input is essential IMHO; you may need some time
to get used to the different feel of it, but you should make that step.
You will like it!

Just want to add that I have CH Pro pedals and so far they've lasted 12 years or so. If I got them when I still lived in Chicago--can't remember--that'd be over 13 years. Have I gotten my money's worth? In spades.

When I learned to fly buttbeaters (Cessnas) I was taught (and eventually taught others) to keep my heels on the floor and manipulate the pedals with the balls of my feet, so when I started using sim pedals that's naturally how I use them. I only come up on them fully to use toe brakes, which we don't have to worry about in WOFF. Otherwise, heels on floor. It's natural for me, comfortable, and I also feel it gives me more rudder control and finesse. Still, nothing "wrong" with putting your foot in the CH pedal "cups," either.

Actually I too tend to just leave my heels on the floor and use the balls of my feet and use the 'heel 'cups' primarily on the ground for toe braking control as well. The pedals are not stiffly sprung and require relatively little pressure to manipulate. They will function fine however you choose to place your feet. If I have one minor complaint about them is they are a bit noisy. That could just be due to their advanced age at this point.

Then I'll teach the Dr.1 a thing or two about who's in charge of the flight! Hopefully it will be me...

Well I feel like a real pilot now.
The new pedals are working very well and the (new) Dr.1 is now my b....!
Only issue is the boots I wear all the time as it makes the pedals somewhat difficult to feel for fine adjustment.
Gonna have to get me a pair of real WW1 pilot socks I suppose for flight.
Rudder pedals (and the CH Pro brand) are highly recommended.

Duke, believe it or not, but I simply bought me a pair of light Kung Fu slippers.
Before that, I had thick woolen socks over me normal socks - all for the feeling!

Duke,
You will enjoy them for years, I have a pair that are at least 15 years old and they still work. Good flying.

Just happened across another set of pedals.
These are all metal construction and I understand are upwards of $500.

Looks like there are two variations, F16 and ME109.
