Forget the carriers. Piece of cake compared to landing at Wau.

Never tried it?

It's over there on the left on that piece of New Guinea.

I tried to copy the feel of landing at the real airfield which had about a 10% slope.

Takeoffs are a breeze.

Landing is tricky. Your perspective is off. Partly the limitations of EAW and partly because it would indeed be hairy landing on a 10% slope.

In SPAW planeset13 the multiplayer target map is used for online groundstart carrier battles in real time.

Six of the carriers are in the circle I have drawn:

The are the Enterprise, the Saratoga, the Victorious, the Shokaku, the Zuikaku and the Ryujo.

wink

Hey, seriously, do you guys do any exploring of the SPAW world?

There are lots of interesting little tidbits strewn about.

Like I mentioned, Wau has a seriously sloped airfield but there are other things too.

Like trees in the water around some of the target sites trying to emulate mangroves.

Some airfields are hazardously close to mountains.

POW camps where you can free the prisoners by blowing up the front gate.

One spot where the two sides have airfields a couple of miles apart. That leads to mayhem pretty quickly.

I've probably forgotten some others but I know we spent a lot of time making the SPAW world an interesting place to be.

What I'm sayin' is it ain't just a carrier war. biggrin

Yep Ray just figured out today that launching from dirset I was only seeing 1/2 the map DUHHHH I tried to find the carriers and they weren't there ...Figured out If I setup in dirset and launch through windower I got a whole map ..Now I can see the whole world and bases I never knew were there. Guess the windower is my choice now now I can find that spot you mentioned.Sure I like to try carriers but also fly around and see the sites..Takes me awhile but I figure things out...Never thought I was the coldest beer in the fridge

Just kidding around a bit. I'm glad SPAW is still providing entertainment for the troops, no matter how it's used.

Looking forward, once we settle on an inventory set up for the whole EAW world I'd like to go back and add some of the latest bells and whistles to SPAW. There have been numerous additions since it came out over 6 years ago.

LOL Thanks Tony found your sticky on the order of install and redoing things..At least now I can get a full map

Got it all in and discovered using version 94 old map gives me a great labeled map...What I'm doing is setting the theather and map versions with dirset which still gives me half a map and an unworkable mouse so I exit and restart using windower and get my setup with full labeled map and go from there ,,weird but it's working good that way windower set at 1280 x 1024 gives me full screen. So I zipped that puppy up for when I screw something up I'll have a backup

BTw, some of the smaller auxiliary airfields sprinkled about the SPAW world are named for contributors to EAW.

How many can you find?
