Yesterday (Sunday) my wife and I went to a family reunion (her late mother's family), something they do often (tight family) but not something I'd normally post about. This one was unique and knowing this crowd, may be interesting to some of you.

There was the normal food and drink (usually boiled crayfish/seafood, spread of desserts, beer and soda). This one featured gumbo, also chicken and sausage jambalaya (topped off with optional white beans),...

...with the typical crowd of people under someone's carport,...

...and with a bonus of live entertainment by a friend of the family (old Country/Honky Tonk music)...

But what made this family reunion *really* unique was the car show. Two of my wife's first cousins are into restoring and customizing old automobiles, and one of them wanted to setup a small display in his yard for a couple of elderly uncles (both [with help from their children] being primary caregivers for their wives).

I thought it was a very nice thing to do, some of their friends also drove over their cars and trucks (others wanted to but couldn't make it), and I learned a little bit about the Hot Rod culture (if that's the correct term).

From what I can tell, these guys are crazy passionate about their hobby, spend crazy amounts of time and money on it and their reward seems to be to simply display their cherished rides in charity and benefit car shows. A very cool bunch it seems, who love hanging out and helping each other and others.

So anyway, I'm not going to try to put too much narrative to my pics as I know so little about these vehicles, except for a few small comments.

These two belong to my wife's cousins, the truck belongs to the homeowner and has been in many shows around the country...

The interiors and the engine of the white car (I have no idea what kind of car it is)...

More cars and trucks belonging to their friends...

This XJS was gorgeous and had a supercharged V8...

I don't have to know a lot about these cars and trucks to appreciate the details, some of them looked perfect to me (and I have an eye for detail), although their owners will confess there are plenty of imperfections they know of. I'll take their word for it.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Sweet, been thinking about trading my 2003 Jaguar S-type 4.2 V8 for a XJS. But I still
still love it, and have put to much money into it to give it up. Its a rocket in the
sport mode.

Jaguars always have a mountain of problems, but can be fixed. For a PRICE.

Love the 64-66 C-10, I used to have one just like it.

Thanks for posting the pics! I'm a fan of the old iron. Some really nice vehicles there. I'm more partial to Fords, but my latest acquisition is a 1959 International B-120 pick up. My wife's gonna kill me when I drag that one home....

Why no love for the '68 Buick?

What kind of car is that? What does it matter? When I drive it, I'm Steve McQueen

Terrible oversight on my part and one that I'm about to correct within the hour. smile

EDIT: bisher, you might want to check that spelling before Moses sees it. wink I wouldn't have minded a couple of newer rides to gawk at like the many I've seen on this board (BMWs, Jags [incl. yours, JimK] and Moses' Camaro).

The rest of my food and automobile pics...

I'm not a big fan of white beans, but Cajun style (I assume, more brown than white) is actually pretty good to me with jambalaya...

A couple more of the homeowner's truck...

More pics, including the Buick (apparently a '68 per 462cid's comment above)...

And a few more of the others...

++++++++++

And now, as an impartial judge (I have no favorites between Chevy and Ford) I shall choose a winner.

Drumroll please (rest of the band is unplugged)...

AND THE WINNER IS...

That food looks good Mark,

I cook gumbo and jambalaya myself, yum!

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead?
Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick.
Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

Sweet!
It's been a long time since one of those big 70's Tbirds was considered cool, but that one really is.
As a kid, around 6, I remember spilling a cherry icee in one with a white interior. I've never forgiven myself.

Let's see, I believe the white one in your first pics is a '32 Ford Coupe with the Flathead V-8. Awesome little car. I also saw a '71 Mustang convertible, was that a '69 Camaro RS, and a '70 Olds 442?

When my uncle got married about 16 years ago, they had a backyard party much like that one as their reception. Jambalaya, gumbo, mountains of crawfish, and my aunt's family, who are all musicians from West Virginia, provided the music in the form of homegrown Bluegrass.

My Jag XK8 has been very trouble free. 15 years old now, of which I've owned it 12 1/2. Great car.

1932 Ford Coupe. If so that a "Deuce Coupe" like in the Beachboys song. That's very cool.

Man, you (and others here) know your cars, and your family knows how to throw one hell of a reception! biggrin

The '32 might have had a flathead to begin with, but that's not one in there now. wink
My Grandad had a '66 C10, turquoise, just like that one. Didn't have a V8, but I wish I had it now. My uncle is the caretaker now. Last I saw it, still under 60k miles. I'm sure it doesn't have much more now.
Gotta love the wood beds in trucks.
