There is a lot of good stuff out there, lying forgotten on Sandbagger's. I'm glad you found some.
The EAW sprites could do with an overhaul, from a few 8 bit pixels, to a decent resolution. Most games these days use a set of textures or larger textures to animate an explosion, smoke, or spray.
The FXEXE, was way before it's time, in using a series of textures show sprites, and there are loads of better textures available from several sites.
When I messed around with the sprite code, I found a single texture was referenced, and a series of 16 mapping points specified, on a 256x256 texture. Now, maybe we could simply move to a 512x512 texture? Worth trying??
