Just got back from seeing Captain America: Civil War. I was leary about doing so because of the hype, and went into it being cynical...

...but it delivered. I really enjoyed it. They did not disappoint and even the introduction of "underoos"--which made me the most leary--was done well. It had been a long time since I saw a movie and left me wanting more.

The characterization was a little bit confusing to me but not too bad...once you took a second to take a step back and re-evaluate. The only thing I thought about afterwards though was why do they even bother doing Avengers movies anymore when everyone is in each others' movies. But with this one, I am quite impressed that they are able to craft this universe and have it hold together well. It makes me worry though as good things like that will, as a matter of natural chaos theory, won't last forever.

But for now, it is good. REAL good.

Just got back from seeing this and I was very pleased with the movie overall.

There was one major thing that surprised me though,

Click to reveal..
Neither Iron Man or Captain America were killed off

Just goes to show you how much better Marvel is with their universe than DC.

DC is basically a one trick pony....only understands Batman.

Marvel has had their share of utter stinkers.

Every Fantastic Four movie made.
Most Punisher movies
Daredevil movie (2003)
Elektra movie (2005)
X-Men 3: Last Stand
Most Spiderman movies

But DC has gotten on track with their last couple of movies (the Bale Batman movies, Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman) which I all rank just as high as the best Marvel flicks.

The films made under the Disney/Marvel Studios partnership have had a perfect record so far both commercially and critically.

they were not Marvel....

they were marvel characters made by Sony, FOX, etc.,

Daredevil, Elektra....redeemed by Marvel netflix series
XMen brought back on track by FOX...but FF4 has been utterly destroyed. They need Marvel to fix FF4 like they did Spidey

The first two Spiderman films with Tobey Maguire were very good. Everything after that was mediocre and forgettable.

I actually liked the 3rd Tobey Spider-man, albeit not as much as the previous ones.

The third film could have been great but it's obvious that they were trying to stuff everything they could into that film (too many villains, too many subplots) and hence it lacked focus.

The 3rd film was a classic case of studio interference vs director.

You'd think that as the films did better they'd trust the director more, but instead they shoved Venom into a film that already had Sandman and Goblin 2.0 and all suffered for it. I wish we'd had Spidey 3 like Raimi wanted, with a Spidey 4 featuring Venom, instead.

Now on the flipside the MCU films are rumored to give the directors very little creative control, but unlike Spidey 3 where they just said "as the studio our just-thought-up idea is better than your just-thought-up idea" they've actually got a large arc preplanned. The directors of MCU films are closer to TV directors with big budgets, bringing the producers' vision to the screen, as opposed to the normal film procedure of the producers supporting the director's vision.

However, the box office returns and critical response indicate this approach is paying off.

I think if you have different directors taking their own spins into the characters, you are never going to be able to create a cohesive universe.

Nolans Bat Trilogy still ranks as the best super hero trilogy to date for me (although Cap 2 and 3 come close)...but Nolans universe was never meant to be shared with rest of characters...

The biggest problem with DC is trusting Snyder too much. That guy has mostly made duds.

"Sucker Punch", "Watchmen" and "Legend of the Guardians" were all commercial duds but "300", "Man of Steel" and "Justice League" all made a ton of money so I'd say he's 50/50 so far. There are other well known directors who have a worse ratio lately like Ron Howard.

You have a surprising amount of trouble with that title for some reason. Justice League is about to begin filming. BvS: Dawn of Justice is the film you keep tripping over.

I've seen most of Snyder's films and they've all left me flat. I felt MoS was passable, but I liked Superman Returns a lot more. It was better than Superman IV I guess. Haven't seen BvS yet.

I agree Snyder was a poor choice for WB's attempt to make their DCU. Nolan would've been good but he's already burned out on it. No director has done more than two Marvel-only MCU films until the Russo brothers, who will have done 4 after the Infinity War duology.

Back to Captain America: Civil War, I found this a bit amusing, and almost ironic - Captain America is the number 1 box office draw in....Russia:
