Just got the DCS newsletter talking about the Early Access for the Gazelle. There's also the Gazelle/Nevada package deal for $65.

EDIT: Doh! Only working with 2.0.2 now.
Quote:
Note: Today’s release is only compatible with DCS World 2.0.2. Support for version 1.5.3 will be coming soon.

Just a heads up about purchasing the Gazelle.

The DCS Store page says "Requires DCS World version 1.5 or 2.0!"

The e-mail I received says "Today's release is only compatible with DCS World 2.0.2. Support for version 1.5.3 will be coming soon."

If you don't have 2.0 yet...you might want to wait until it's supported.

I won't lie here, I have been looking forward to this project for a while now, I think i'll wait just a few more months before I invest though.

Exactly what do they mean by snipers? Having two AI units in the back who you can tell to disembark when landed, or are they going to be shooting from the helo.

I'll wait for a good sale offer, or MP cockpit. Otherwise I don't think such a simple attack helo warrants that high a price tag.

Yeah, our dollars are much better spent on one of the numerous other high fidelity attack helos on the market...

I did "lie about "day one purchase though. cant purchase till late tonight/ tomorrow due to travel, so have to wait frown

Looks like a hoot to fly though. If the Huey is a pickup truck the gazelle is a spots sedan. Kinda a split between a little bird and a cobra.

And since there are no other "high fidelity attack helo" sims on the market, we'll have to settle for this one? If I wanted an Apache helo sim but all that is available is a Gazelle, this would not make me want to purchase the Gazelle. Even if it did, knowing ED/DCS track record... banghead

Or are we going down the "since there are no other developers actively making products such as these, we're obliged to support DCS" argument?

I don't care about what other attack helos there are. The Gazelle is a very simple one, it won't keep me occupied or entertained long enough to justify paying as much as for the A-10C.

No, no, no. The Gazelle is US$49.99. The A-10C is US$39.99. The Warthog is actually cheaper.

(ps. I checked my account and it seems that I've paid US$59.99 on December 2010, when it was in Beta phase.)

I may pick it up in a sale when it's development is closer to being done. I believe new 3rd parties are going to suffer from what has gone before, namely the hawk and c101. I have the 101, well I paid for it, I don't have it installed, I have a serial number but zero desire to fly it and zero desire to check on how it's progressing. Never bought the hawk, once bitten and all that.
I don't buy into the argument that folk should buy everything just to support the devs. The devs need to build their reputation before that happens. I don't mind supporting a dev that produces quality, I'm not talking about a quality beta. A quality finished product.
What we're seeing with all the 3rd parties is part time support for part time projects for full time money. I'll wait and see how these guys get on.

DCS Kickstarter
Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable."
Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

Supporting beta development is a double edge sword so unless a big fan of the thing or ready to betatest like its your real job is better to protect your "feelings" by not buying. Especially since (in DCS but also else where) the 3rd parties are immediately complaining if you don't like something in their work that you should not buy beta blah blah etc. But they like the money...

For me M2000C was the last thing I bought as beta-day one. It turned out to be a lucky one as RAZBAM is doing a nice job patching it but I took it as a warning. From now on unless I read very good reviews for the said beta (read beta in the ballpark of Bellsimtek Mi-8) and it is something I really want/like I will not buy.

I won't support any dev that produces a bs plane to make its hand with 60Euros, beta for 2 years, etc just because life is hard on flight sims. Life is hard. And we should never "lose faith in Darwin's evolution". If the price to have something good is to lose many generations of devs... so be it. Babysitting the devs with money will only render us with some evolutionary abomination like a chihuahua with its head from a bulldog (beta) and one leg from a dalmatian (pre-alpha).

So... yeah... out-off-beta-ish, heavy discount for me for Gazelle. Sorry. Thank to VEAO, AvioDev and LNS for that.

I've just had a look at the Polychop section of the ED forums.
These guys are planning and working on
Gazelle
BO-105
JU-87D
Tornado
and the Horton Ho229
Now their list isn't as long as VEAOs and it contains the almost fantasy Horton, but I find it hard to believe the Gazelle will get the support, from a busy part time 3rd party, that it's price tag would warrant. I'll say to everyone "if you don't want to be disappointed, don't buy a beta"

One can never have too many 3rd parties in this biz. I won't buy Gazelle because I just have zero interest in this aircraft and the next ones on their list. Will monitor situation though, 'cause all the "adventures" 3rd parties have been having lately will affect the way ED hands out contracts for addon content and that will affect me in the future.

I'm very happy so far. It's lot of fun to fly. I just love hiding behind a treeline or a ridge, engage autohover, disable auto collective, popup, shot, descent so that only the camera can see over the trees/ridge, then reposition and rinse repeat. It's amazing how much fun you can have with just a convoy consisting of a few BMP's and one or two SA-8's or SA-15's.

Watch those ATGMs though.

What I don't understand is why not make the aircraft/helos that people WANT to buy? F-15E. F-14. F-18. Apache.

Didn't Razbam at least for now remove the Mudhen from their development list?
