Hello all,
I am prototyping a full column joystick for a WW2 plane called IAR80. The problem is that it isn't a well known plane so information is sparse.

What I want to do is a real scale column stick including real degrees of movement.

So for that I have tried to find information about more famous planes from WW2 in regards to the column stick movement. But I haven't found anything.

Will you guys be able to let me know the degrees of movement for the column stick of some famouse planes from WW2?
Basically yanking the column to the left and then to the right, the difference in degrees, and same for moving it to the front and then to the back.

For reference how the IAR cockpit looks.

Thanks.

For elevator seems the angle of KP1 = 15º down, 26º up.
Aileron is symetrical 15.30º for each side.

Hi buccaneer89,

The right deflection is depending on the length of the column you will use. The longer the column the shorter deflection will be ergonomical. The column will be acting between your knees, so it is also very important to have wide enough pedals, otherwise it will be very unconvinient with full aileron deflection. The placement of the pivot point compared to your seating height is also critical.

I used the measurments of the bf109g. So the column length from pivotpoint to the middle of the grip is about 500mm, with the pivot point about 100mm under my bottom.

The deflection on ailerons is (as Sokol wrote) +/- 15,3deg. On the other hand the elevators in real life doesnt have a permanent center point. The aerodinamical center is moving aft and fore according to the current airspeed and trimm settings. So it is more like a range of 30deg. Translated to a spring centered column it would be +/-15deg. (i used the same range as on the ailerons). It is completely ergonomical this way.

Sokol,
The angels on figure Kp1 are not equal with the stick deflection. There is a ratio resulted by the lever mechanism. It cannot be translated to stick movement without knowing the exact arm lengths.

Stuka column moves -16 +22 degrees for elevator control - see PDF page 74 (403 in manual):

http://www.avialogs.com/index.php/en/air...sanleitung.html

Fw 190 A-5/A6: -20.30 +21.30 degrees (PDF page 5).

I remember see a document with the control column angles for the major WWII fighters - but dont find again...
