As the subject said, I recently upgrading my 5 year old rig, and made the jump to the new GTX 980. Love it so far. I was just curious if anyone else is using this, and if so, what are you getting out of it in WOFF? Right now I have it on its default (since I've only had it two days), but if anyone knows how to maximize its performance please share!

To see what other are getting it is also important to get a grip on what resolutiun they are using. Big difference when using this GTX980 on a 1080x720 or at 4k.

Ah yes, resolution as well. Thanks Dutch.

You should always use the monitor's full resolution for best results.
Any new graphic cards should not have performance issues with WOFF.
The performance bottleneck is mostly rather CPU speed, as CFS3 can only use a single core.
So even if you have a quad-core CPU, only a fast speed of it can improve performance.
3,2 GHz is the lower end of what you should have IMHO.

I can max out my WOFF 2 graphics (using my GTX 980 PC) on a 2560x1440 monitor, but you never said what resolution you monitor is ???

CPU = i9 11900K
GPU = RTX 3080 Ti
Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

Congratulations CaNy_Ace88! Every review I ever read says that it's a fantastic card and it really shows it's muscles off with high resolution 4K gaming. I am sure you will be very happy with it for many years.

I almost bought one to replace my 780 ti, however I have decided to wait for the new Pascal GPUs due out in the second half of this year. I suspect they will be ridiculously expensive, however they look to be a quantum leap in GPU power. I will wait for the reviews and hope they are as good as expected.

He's got that covered. He's running the fastest single thread processor on the market right now:

Ace, you can also overclock your CPU if you want. What kind of heat sinks are you guys using when you overclock these super fast CPU's. I've got the same CPU but haven't looked into what it takes to overclock it yet (heat management wise).

Ohhh, I'm getting jealous - my "ancient" i7-2600K is only at 4.1 GHz on a modest overclok, and he's 4.0 right out of the box!

Congrats on the new gear!

Keep your $$ in the pocket and optimize your rig.

I had posted about my upgrade experiences in another thread which is a bit overkill for now, but I won't need to spend any more money on hardware upgrades for at least another 4+ years and still be able to play most games at their max settings...

(http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4177707/Re:_Tired_of_win_10_and_gaming#Post4177707)

Well, I'll recap what I had upgraded...

Went from a 580 (2011)/680 GTX 2gb (2012) -> 290x (2014) -> 980 Ti (2015), then from a 2500K (2011) to a 6700K (2015).

From the 580 -> 290x there was a small to moderate increase in performance with the same AA/AF/AO/etc... settings. Then the 980 upgrade gave great performance increase as well as graphic quality.... BUT only in 3+ year old games. Recent game titles (2015) showed little gain.

It's only when I upgraded to the 6700K is where I feel that I can play any game on earth at its max settings without breaking a sweat... simply amazing performance! Compared to Sandybridge, Skylake is a BEAST and there's no doubt about it. IMHO overclocking is good for benchmarks, but no real world benefit like a hardware upgrade for sure.

I too am quite happy with the 6700K - tis a bit slower on CPU single threaded but it's nothing to sneeze at.

Coupled with the 980ti and a Gsync monitor - the smoothness really helps.

My new specs are listed below - My first PC build only for gaming.
Thinking this was my "mid"-life crisis....

I have WOFF settings maxed and am achieving 70-100+fps.
What a difference from the 20-40fps I was getting on my old notebook.

The next thing I want is a good gsync monitor

I'm hovering around 60 fps consistently without messing with my 980, but I have everything maxed in WOFF. I would definitely like to see how close to you I can get with the 980. I'm rather unfamiliar to when it comes to overclocking, so I need to find out how to do it without doing much damage.

One of my game PC's has a i7 6700K, GTX 980 using a 1920x1080 G-sync monitor and it tops out at about 100 FPS with WOFF maxed and WOFF's 8xAA and nVidia's 8xAF.

As a result, you should have no problems, depending on the G-sync monitor with resolutions up to 2560x1440.

CPU = i9 11900K
GPU = RTX 3080 Ti
Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

So, being the technologically uneducated guy, how much of a difference am I see without a gsync monitor and with? I do not have a gsync monitor, as I previously stated.
