Well of course the wheels turn accurately.

notworthy

So the big question is which sort of engine noises one makes when looking at it - the low rumble of idle or racing noises including the RPM drops at the shift?

The rumble of idle is appealing...

The last touches in the trunk. Here are the styrene buildups for the trunk release latch, and the wire I bent to form the trunk pass-through handle.

Added some Bare Metal Foil to make the latch mechanism shine a bit. OH... And these two photos also show off the little side walls I built a while back, which close up the sides of the trunk space. Shown previously in THIS POST.

And superglued the handle in place on the rear of the pass-through door.

I had thought about building the trunk mat, plus an empty spare tire cover. Easy enough to drop in, but I hate to cover those details. I'll consider it.

Ok, built a trunk mat and a matching cover for the mock spare tire. The trunk mat was cut from a very fine weave canvas, and painted a light gray.

Here is the form for the spare tire cover. I chose to make this from card stock, so it would be more flexible while cramming the finished part into the trunk (it's a very tight fit), but still retain a decent form. There are two colored lines on the photo. The red line shows where the round tire form is cut flat because of the rear wall of the trunk. The blue line shows where the tire form is again cut flat to allow clearance for my trunk lid hinge to close.

The white material to the left is adhesive backed linen tape. This will give me a fabric texture that I can cut and adhere to the card stock tire form.

The real world material has a sort of angled stitch design, in a rough plaid pattern. Where the cross stitches interlace, you get a dark square. So here, I've tried to recreate an authentic appearance by using window screen as a mask, and airbrushing a dark gray over the base light gray on both the mat, and the (still uncut) linen tape material for the spare tire cover.

And here, all installed. The edges of the spare tire cover are painted to represent the dark colored piping on the seams of the real thing. The cut off edges do show, when you pay attention. But the scale effect seems to work. The couple of people I asked about it didn't spot it, until I pointed it out.

I also used the tweezers to crimp around the edges, as though the material is gathered and tucked around the tire, plus a little "peak" was pushed into the center, to hint at the tire and whatnot protruding beneath.

I like it better without it.

Maybe it's working with such a tiny scale, but this is the first part that looks "model-ly."

Are you planning on putting into any shows?

The County Fair here has a model competition as well as those for pecan pies, for example.

Shows... I have no idea. That kind of thing is something I have never been around or involved with.

Presently I'm waiting for some good weather to do some outdoor photos. One of the next few days should be great.

We're all waiting for good weather!

I can imagine you carrying the model as if it were a Faberge egg out to the deck.

You have no idea how I'm waiting, too. It seemed all set, clear, cool, sunny... Then I had a thunder storm. Then the next day it hailed! Last night it froze.

Arg!

Hey thanks, I'm just glad I stuck with it and completed the build!

Waiting on the weather has been slow. This weekend I'll try to get the outdoor shots. Today, winds gusting to 23 mph...

But I've got a new camera and tripod... Ready for some outdoor photography fun!

Just one last detail (I think) while waiting on the weather. Hood pins. Made of some super tiny primed cotton string, and metal pins that push down into the holes in the top of the hood (the pins don't fully protrude from below, only about halfway).

Here the strings are painted with a dark gray, then dry brushed with a silver metallic paint. Hanging loose with the hood open:

And closed, with the pins locked in the holes.

Till I saw this build.

That's VERY cool. How come mine never come out like that? I remember when I was little, my older brother had the talent to make really nice models like this. I also remember the penalty for touching one of them. Again, really nice!

Looks very good, yesterday my 15yo grandson looked at the pics above and said "'67 Mustang GT350 .... oh... it's a model" then he wanted to see the pics of the build up.
