So what's the consensus? If this is true of course.
So we're supposed to buy three-year updated consoles for 400$ so there can be a little more bells and whistles in the graphics department?
I'm not sold on the idea. Hell, I'm even contemplating going back to PC after ten years on consoles, buy a decent rig for equivalent of 1k USD and just roll with it. A rig for 800 USD or up will last longer than a console being updated every three year. Probably a PC for 500 USD will last longer than a console.

PS4 - 4K Version is Confirmed.
"Custom" Xbox One's are also confirmed, they will likely be beefed up units,
My AMD List shows New APU's being tested for both using newer Architectures and Uprated GPU's.
Xbox Hardware is Transitioning from Console to UWA Hardware Deployment, everything UWA will run on XBO.
Consoles are becoming more expensive and are still less powerful than PC's By far, Easiest way to solve that is to ditch old console mentality and embrace Cheap/Micro/Entry Level PC's disguised as Consoles.

I am right there with you, brother, and I took the plunge. Bought an Alienware Alpha with the Core i7 and I have not looked back. It's essentially a console, but it lacks a drive tray that I didn't need. Just about everything I own and play with any regularity is digital download thanks to Steam. I have a PS3 that I don't plan on replacing when it dies. PCs with a good controller whip a console everyday.

But the consoles still have an advantage along with their shortfalls: They usually exist in more social environments like a basement or living room. PC's are cave machines. That is why I don't see the console dying. Both XBO and PS4 are essentially set top PCs. so future consoles wont be custom hardware, they'll likely be set-top pcs w/ enough power to keep up w/ the current standard. I built a Settop Gaming PC for a client for $450, That decimates the Current Consoles in both Gaming and Media Deployment, not to mention specifics.. -Larger Harddisk for Games, Small SSD for Quick Boot up -Larger System Ram -More Powerful GPU -Better Cooling -Better Blu Ray Player -Better Streaming Media Connectivity -Can Use Current and Past gen USB Game Pads, but is not limited to Proprietary Controllers. -Runs Windows 10 and UWA Applications/Games, Can Stream Xbox One Games from XBO if needed. -Can Be Used for Productivity Items (Web Surfing, Email, Etc etc).
