It has taken ages, and it not finished, but it is working.
As you were trying to get later code into 1.28c I decided to go backwards, and have a 1.28E running in 640x480 in my 1.2c folder. So it is a 1.28c with real planesets smile
I can fly instant and single missions.
The next glitch I need to look at is to stop it using "pnames.str" when individual folders are loaded.

Hi Tony.

Have you changed the Glide version in these EXE's?

Supports EAW 1.29.exe, Drop in and Play Technology. wink

1.29 download

No. All the new versions have the latest Glide 3 compatibility smile

Progress update:

It is going very well.
The Text_Eng.CDF in the 1.28e/1.29 installation does not have a pnames.str in it. It has the split files instead.
So with this new 640x480 version of 1.28E I can fly The ETO with planesets 1-5 and see the correct names.
I can also fly 1.28c theatres like SWOTL which has no planesets, but has its own "pnames.str" and see the correct names.

wink

Nice one Jel!

I was coming at it the other way. So far I have a version of 128c which can use D.3dz, has 10 planesets, each with its own savedata folder in which each slot has its own saving and loading folder.

The difference with your 128e setup is that 128c does not use the split FM files. Is your new 128e able to use both the split and unsplit FM files planes.dat, pnames.str, and loadout.dat? Obviously not in the same scenario setup smile

Screenies:
ETO_01 which has real planesets.
Planeset4 selected

No matching hangar screens (originals in 1.28E were 1024x768), or minipics

SPAW 1.28c which is the original, complete with its own CDFs, but using the multiplayer target set.
Planeset0 set:

Moggy I have just put a "MoggyPak.zip" file in your folder.
It has the EAW Versions folder with the 640x480 1.28e exe in it, and the two CDF files that have split files in them smile

The best bit is that old theatres can be tried with this exe, without the need to convert screen and mnu files. Features available in 1.28E are still there, so you can have 'planes' folders and 'planeset' folders with "PDir" and "FMDir.set" files.
However, it is 1.28E so it does not handle the extended tilesets that 1.28F and the later exes can by using the TM2 system.

Hello Jel,

Have set up a new 128E-2016 installation and given this a run.

I set up planeset6 from DSP. It was good to see that "programme loading %" screen again.

Mainscreen loaded from planeset6,

Aircraft selection screens loaded okay with correct aircraft names, so plainly reading unsplit pnames.str. The aircraft I chose was a Wellington bomber, and hangar screen loaded from planeset6.

Two matters:

(1) it's not using separate slot specific subfolders to save and load single missions. I could not load a saved single mission from slot00 folder. This was part of the single mission stuff that we worked out for 128F. I have retrofitted it to 128C. Can we put this in?

(2) The ordnance loading screen was out of kilter - is it still trying to load the larger screen?

However, ordnance options appeared to be okay, so plainly reading unsplit loadout.dat

Took the plane off the bomb Ostend. All appeared okay. Encounter with Bf109 and Bf110.

I have not yet tried out the p.dir and fm.dir setup. Will do that later.

What's the situation with the extra plane 3dz files? Using unsplit planes.dat it could use D.3dz. Using split planesXX.dat files it could additionally use the I, J, K, O and Q.

This 128E version could very well be a happy compromise, and EAW exe that looks back and can use all that material created since 2000, and yet looks forward and uses useful enhancements.

Can I suggest we call it 128EJ - J for Jel, and also J for Janus, the god who looked back into the old year and forward into the new. Many thanks for this.

I am seriously wondering about going one step further.
Yesterday I had started with a 1.29 old map conversion which I was able to fly.
I will check it again.

129 would have the other things we worked on such as the single mission sequence, smoky tmods. Very nice.

The 1.29 conversion is being very troublesome frown
However, I have a 1.28F conversion working extremely well.
To support it I have a new dirset picker.

If a planeset is selected and there is a "PSInfo.txt" file in the selected planeset folder the utility displays the first line of the text at the bottom of the screen.
I have two for midway, PS0 has the default terrain and PS1 has the azure terrain:

If necessary I could make it display multiple lines of text smile

Planeset0:

Planeset1:

Additionally the exe needs the split "planeset.dat" files, so I have made a simple splitter which splits the "planes.dat" file into "PLANE00.DAT" ...... "PLANE29.DAT" files.
As it is 1.28F it needs the "EAWTM2" folder, and the "eaw32.tm" file for the theatre.
Again I have a simple converter which reads the "eaw.tm" file and makes a "eaw32.tm" file.

As they are not "real" planeset folders with PDir a,d FMDir.set files in them, there is no "savedata" folder.
However, the last missions were saved in slot folders in the main "Midway128c" folder:

The loadout screen is working properly smile

wink

Like those Midway screens.

It is a big single download: 640480 Folder

....... but it is my 640x480 working folder with a variety of exes which use 640x480 screens, and some old versions of theatres- warts and all smile

The DSPicker is the one you want- I note a couple of typos in the Dir.set names- easily fixed by the user smile

ETO01 needs the 129640V8a exe, and I cannot get this exe to display the split minipics. I have tried to get it to do that for a day and a half, so I have given up on that aspect. However, it has most of the features of 1.29, except the display of the national names. These are the single "N00NAME.STR" .... "N29NAME.STR" files which did not exist for the early theatres, but cause a CTD with the 1024x768 1.29 versions if they are missing.

wink Jel

I am still working on the 1.29 exe. I have already added a couple of things which are in 140. You can now disable the WW1 take off routine. You canalso enable/disable the use of the "seasons" terrain folder which is now located in the root folder. This saves having to have multiple copies of the "seasons" folder in the various theatres which are ETO based.

Moggy there is a "129V10(640).exe" 7-zip in your folder with the exe I was using when I took the carrier screenie in my other thread.

It also has a replacement "text_eng.CDF" in it. This has the shortened versions of the "Textmap1/2.str" files. The original longer ones had a whole lot of TMod special texture links which caused missing file errors with Ray's new ETO.
