Anyone get this game? My 2 boys said they heard it was pretty decent so I picked it up last night. Need to set up my new system in our basement so I haven't tried it yet. W/our move I've been off xbox for a long time.

thanks for the hints Mag, I think I deciphered the typos enough to see what you're telling me. I've been using add blocker on Chrome and it's much better.
Thanks for the tips, yeah the site is really terrible to browse on mobile or tablet, I can't stand to visit SimHQ except when on PC with an adblocking browser.
Fun game so far, I picked it up on PC though in the hope to co-op with some of the SimHQ folks that I play MWO with.
Real good... sure the PC is the better performer, but next gen is nice too. Same exact gameplay from what I've read... just PC will always be better graphically.
Cool, if the gameplay holds up like Destiny and BF4 did for me, I'll probably eventually pick it up on XB1 too so I can play it on the couch and with you guys on XB1, like I did BF4 and Destiny which I have on multiple platforms.

I hear ya! I hate posting from my tablet, the damNED ad keeps coming up while I'm trying to see what I'm typing.
Good tips too. I've sold most of my stuff, but probably find equipment in loot anyway faster than I could buy it, so I'll try breaking down more often. Graphically, I see a lot of pop-in, but it's not bad. Still holding at about 45 fps. I doubt it looks any better than console on my rig, but as long as it runs smooth I'm pretty happy.
So, what you guys are saying is that it is not a waste of money for singleplayer gaming. Because I have zero to little interest in the online portion of it.

I can say I'm enjoying it, and I've only spent an hour online. Got to do some co-op with Kludger earlier and it was a lot of fun. For SP, the only thing that might concern me is that the game shows me 25% of the way finished with the campaign storyline, so I assume that means it's pretty short. I've concentrated on unlocking the main base, so I assume that's why I'm that far along already. I expect that to slow down as I stay busy with more side missions. Like most RPG games, that 25% doesn't take into account the side missions (there are TONS of them) and the random fights and called in missions that come up during gameplay. I'd say that if you're the type that blazes through and RPG concentrating on just the main story, doesn't care for side missions, doesn't plan to do MP or co-op, prefers to fast travel instead of going it on foot, then it's probably too short. If you like taking your time and fleshing it all out, it's probably worth it.
Family was out of town for the weekend so I put in a decent amount of time on this. Co-op is where this game shines. I have ben playing with groups all weekend, including a few hours with magnum in our group and the missions are not only easier, but so much more fun working together. During the week I managed a few solo sessions and the amount of missions I completed vs the amount I got done with good help (all friends, all on voip) was amazing. Also, now that I am level 20 I have only gotten one pink blueprint and no pink drops, but the advanced weapons vendor is selling them, so I started selling some of my blues and greens to get enough o upgrade my weapons. Supposedly they are easy to come by in the DZ but our one foray into there resulted in a split group (I was ranked higher and kept getting sent into the DZ solo while the other 3 in my group were together and kicking a** extracting stuff. I was getting raped by groups of 3-4 every spawn). Overall a fun experience, but like Borderlands its way better with others. This review brought to you by beer, tequila, and family trips.

anyone around this weekend at night for some MP? My GF is going away so I'll have lots of free time to play and would love to try MP.
Added you to my friends list the other day. Not sure what my schedule is like this weekend but my goal is to try to get on some.
Also, I think this is one of the first times I have ever stopped and listened in on two NPCs having a conversation that wasn't required to progression in a game.

You know the one thing I really, like is being a PC user, playing right alone side the console users. That in itself amazes me. I don't think it gets mentioned enough.

I'm on pc, just saw this thread and got into it. Same game though. We had a group last night but got dropped. Can't complain too much, it's the first time that's happened. For a Ubisoft title, this game has had a remarkably smooth launch.

Anyone made it any decent amount in Dark Zone?

my son and I just got in there last night a little bit. You need more people to work with besides 2 people. We kept getting over run and I had enough and went back out.

Remember to pay attention to the zone skill levels on the map. Start low until you build up some. They're a lot tougher and have better weapons in there. I play it solo and it's pretty fun if you don't push it too far. I try to stay relatively close to the exit and an extraction zone. Pick your battles, sometimes let the roaming groups go by and hide out until you find something favorable. Fight from a distance with plenty of room to back up. Draw them near an extraction zone in a pinch, you may be more likely to find others to help you there. don't forget to use your skills for additional attacks and healing. Extract frequently, don't wait until you fill a backpack to get your stuff out of there. If you die, retrieve your backpack, but approach carefully and try to get it out of there before you decide if you want to engage them. Watch for DZ cash drops from dead enemies, it looks a lot like ammo so don't pass over it. Don't be afraid to fall in with a group and play along. The only time I've seen people turn on each other is when someone goes rogue, usually on accident. Watch your fire. LOL A group of 4-5 can clean up pretty well.

lol. happened to me, I shot a guy who was neutral and my son said watch out because he'll go rogue. I stopped shooting so he must have left me alone.

Actually, YOU would be the one going rogue and they'd all turn on you. LOL I think they give you a shot or two grace period. Once I shot a guy just enough to turn red, but not much and I quit as soon as I saw what happened. I only stayed red for a minute and got away with it.

What frustrates me about the DZ is solo, extracting loot, and either some doofus will walk right into my grenade blast of line of fire. Then I am marked rogue and a target for everyone. That or a group tonight of five level 30 or so guys was wandering around....I could hear their comms, killing level 5 DZ players extracting stuff....like me.
The former is more irritating just because it's stupidity. The latter I can just quit, go play catch with the kids and come back later.

We had a group of 4 together last week and decided to try out the DZ. I was about 3-4 levels above everyone else in the group and it sent them to one zone and me to another by myself because I was over-leveled for their zone. They were running around getting loot, I was getting run over by groups. I haven't been able to find a group of friends with everyone close enough to get into the DZ together again yet. Some friends tried to get me to 30 yesterday since they already were, but I had to leave halfway through 28. My goal is to hit 30 today or tomorrow so I can hang with those guys.

I haven't gotten to try it yet, but when you form your group you can go into group management and select Join DZ Player Bracket of your Buddy.
If you see other players, NPC or human, with skulls over their heads, that means they're 5 levels or more above your level. That's when you leave the area. When extracting, I toss my turret into the drop zone, just in case someone wants to jump me. It won't shoot anyone that isn't rogue, so it's safe. As for grenades, hold off in a tight group. I get much more use out of the fired sticky bomb, which will stick to their body.

Stupid question: what are the unnamed "improvised mods." I can't figure out how to use them and ended up selling them because I can't see where to put them....

Some equipment like backpacks, gloves etc can be modded. I didn't see one that could do that until level 14, on a blue piece. I assume the higher level pieces will have more slots. You can see the slots in your inventory just like your weapon mod slots.

Thanks, RK!
I am going to bed now after spending two hours of my life I'll never get back trying to extract stuff from the DZ. every time I'd get close some tool would draw enemies in, jump in and get me with friendly fire, either unintentional or intentional, or the bad guys would just waste me. I finally got an extraction using by just making my way to the zone, killing everyone in sight and in the area and then calling the chopper. Luckily this time no one showed up to blow it for me while I was waiting the 2 min or whatever it is....

this "going rogue" crap sucks, people get in your line of fire and then you're the one they're shooting because of it. The colors don't seem to pop up that quick either. My son wasn't too happy with me, made a few extractions but then he lost a good gun at the end when we called it quits.
Ya, I enjoyed the game... but that dark zone crap sucks... not worth the rewards for the constant deaths by the spawning in AI thugs and/or the rogue high level 4 man death squad teams... that help you then stab you in the back... I've moved on for now.

I hopped in with a friend who was in a group of 3. They were in the DZ and I only really had like 20-30 mins to play so I joined them. We were in low level DZ 01-02 area. The bosses were tough and it was really chaotic, but through 2 extractions I got like 12 good purple pieces of equipment and a yellow magazine. I got downed a couple of times, but working together it was fun and worth it.

it seems like that's the only way to survive in there. I was reading the boards yesterday and there were so many complaints about DZ squads and going rogue. Need to get my brothers on this game so we can have our own group for protection.
and I'm OK with that... the problem I have is the constant penalty for death... I gain 2 levels and lose a level or two... drives me crazy... mostly because of the high amount of AI enemies that spawn almost right in front of you at the extraction zones... and then the rouge squads, which I can deal with, with friends... but what if it's only me playing, then it's impossible.
I'm in the same boat Mag, usually I'm on alone so I don't even venture into the DZ. Even w/my son 2 people isn't enough, you can try to get people to group with you but they don't normally stay.

Today I revived a guy, healed him a bunch more, kept him alive and then him and a bunch of higher level guys than him all jumped me. I could hear them laughing to the guy I'd saved when he said he wa not "sure that was cool" that "dude that's how we all got to level 30."

I don't play the game, but rules for online play is; don't trust anybody you don't know. Shoot first, ask questions later. There's no "honor" in online play.

Have you been in the DZ since the last patch? They nerfed the penalty for dying some because people were complaining about it.
I decided to give matchmaking a go with the DZ since I had a little time to kill yesterday afternoon. First group I got into there were 4 of us. One guy decided to go rogue and everyone else in the server ended up in a huge fight against us in like 5 minutes. After dying twice and 2 of the other guys in the group leaving I left too. Tried again and got a group with 2 guys. 1 immediately left group when I joined but I stuck it out with the other guy. Ran into a solo playing while clearing a landmark and invited him to join us. Good voice coms and cooperation (we even saved another group being attacked by rogues at one point) and I got a decent amount of purple gear extracted. I also leveled up to 18 from 13 in like 45 mins. You definitely take chances with the random matchmaking though. I think I am going to start using one of the LFG sites if none of my friends are around. I had pretty good luck finding decent gamers for Destiny doing that.
I am going to try to be on tomorrow night and Sat night if possible. If you see me in the game feel free to join on us or invite me to your group.

I guess it's different on pc, but the DZ is a lot of fun. The NPC's are the biggest threat. Could be because I still stick to lower level areas, or there are just fewer people on pc. It's very intense but a lot of fun solo. Either way, the good news is that as the game gets older and falls out of favor with the "new shiny object" crew and they move on, the game will improve since the NPC's will still be there.
Hey Mag, I didn't know I had to accept your friend request and just noticed it yesterday... Accepted yours and ForSquirrels yesterday and was able to play with him for a bit. Damn is he good!
