Angry Joe did a very nice vid on the upcoming Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, and I have to say it looks very, very interesting. It's pretty obvious that the devs are big fans of the tabletop game, and it shows:

"...late afternoon the Air Tasking Order came in [and] we found the A-10 part and we said, "We are going where!? We are doing what!?"

Cool! Saw something about this last year, but I didn't realize how similar it would be to Nexus the Jupiter Incident. But WH of course.
Steam and the video just say March, any idea about the release date?

Steam is giving a 10% special promotion discount until March 23rd. And since the game is scheduled for release in March I'd say end of March is a decent guess.

I pulled the trigger on it. I need a space rts like that since I'm not into the first person games.
MP beta coming up this week, release shouldn't be too far behind.

Looks pretty cool, reminds me of this good one I picked up in the Slitherine sale recently, which i need to play some more:

Star Hammer: the Vanguard Prophecy

Will be interested to hear how you like Gothic Armada, I'm a sucker for WH40k stuff, Praise the Emperor.

Just preordered.

Looking forward to cleanse the Gothic sector from the xenos and heretic scum!

BTW there are two pretty decent 40k novels about fleet actions during the Gothic War:

Shadow Point and Execution Hour, both by Gordon Rennie. Perfect reading while you're waiting for the release.

This game is excellent! It's like a few great games rolled into one:
Nexus the Jupiter Incident...ship movement, although it isn't 3D is good and you can prioritize your targets
Star Wars Empire at War...the overall map for selecting your battle areas. No ground battles, but that was a little weak on EAW anyway. Combat is similar, but no cinematic camera.
Gratuitous Space Battles...you set your formation at the start, then issue orders, but during the battle, not just at the start.

The campaign is open, but either I missed the save or you can't save yet, not sure. There is also solo skirmish where you pick a faction as well as MP.
All still say beta, but it's running very well IMO. Hope I just missed the save function, but I'd want to start over anyway now that I'm more familiar with what's going on.
Grabbed some video, I'll put it up later.

I was just watching a live stream of some of the gameplay; it looks amazing! The ship designs alone make it interesting for me.

I will be picking this up sooner or later

I really like the game so far. The 40k atmosphere is very well done and the action is both fun and challenging. There's a ton of customization for your ships (skills, upgrades, crew, favors) and the combat is quite tactical despite being an RTS.

so far its pretty damn good ... there is nothing like launching a full spread of torpedo's at an enemy ship and and just watching them hit .. or miss in may case biggrin

Dont think of it as being vastly outnumbered ... but just having a large target selection.

The only thing more accurate than incoming fire, is incoming friendly fire

Tracers work BOTH ways...

Yeah, I love torpedoes. Very satisfying to burn past a chaos cruiser, firing off a broadside of macrocannons, then executing a high energy turn and launching a full spread of torpedoes into the enemy!

biggrin

Not a fan of RTSs but I'm going to buy this just for the art and graphics smile

Just love 40K

Just don't love to play 40K (or any other miniatures game) with a bunch of 14-yolds at the local gaming store...

The campaign cut scenes really sets the mood very well with some excellent intro screens and voice overs. Hell, Abaddon's scene is basically taken 1:1 from the old BGF rulebook!

I would've preferred a turn-based, more strategic gameplay myself. But the game IS fun even for non-RTS-experts like me thanks to a slow-motion feature that lets you command your fleet with a bit more time to think.

I'd like the space bar to be a full on pause to set commands, but the slow down is pretty cool too.

I think the slow down works pretty well, doesn't break the flow of battle as much as a real pause.

Eldar next week, releasing in two. Really enjoying this game! Can't wait for the campaign to open up, but skirmish is a lot of fun with the constant fleet development.

You're welcome. I'm a big fan of all things 40k (don't actively play the TT anymore though) and really enjoy this one, too. There are a few balance issues in MP (but then there always are some in RTS) but I agree, the skirmish battles are a lot of fun!

I already played the campaign yesterday night for a couple of turns. Great 40k atmosphere, good gameplay, very much enjoying it so far.

BTW Germany's biggest gaming mag "Gamestar" reviewed BFG:A and gave it 83%, "the best 40k game since Dawn of War 2".

Hehe... I don't think BFG:A's gameplay lends itself to a decent AAR.

I have other plans regarding an AAR though.

wink

So, seeing this on sale at Steam - how is it? Worth picking up?

A little late, I know, but thought I'd follow up. It's a fun game, but not one I put a lot of time into in one sitting. I like the gameplay a lot, but the mission types get repetitive and I really wish the maps were far bigger.
It's well voiced and well done for what it is, but I'd say it's more of a $15-20 game, at $10 a no brainer.

I picked it up myself and it's pretty fun. Have played a few multiplayer games as well and it's very well done.

Think the old "Star Trek Starfleet Command" games but in a Warhammer 40k Universe.

Going to give this a try. Alongside Sanctus Reach and Deathwing there's now an interesting few recent games that all look at separate aspects of WH40K... I like that, cool to have different game types out of the same rich universe.
