Ah, the Playstation version, that was really bad game, or at least it didn't aged so well compared to the PC version. I've recently finished the game despite owning it for at least 10 years (some missions are brutal, and not because you die, but bacause wingmand/escorted plane/whatever dies, so cheap... so you have to develop special tactics - like flying in first to the SAMs envelope getting their attention and being shot at, while strike aircraft make their attacks unharassed). It took me few years, as I made long brakes between few failed missions, but eventually reached the last mission and defeated Nomad over Libya in the 3rd try! Good game, cheesy videos and good old James Tolkan as Hondo.

Unbelievable, but it was developed by Spectrum Holobyte, Inc. ...

Oh man I do. I loved that game. Loved the RIO dynamic and unique missions like taking pictures with the TARP pod or whatever that was. I think I still have the manual and everthing. Cut scene videos were great too.

During my gameplay in one of the earlier missions I encountered an easter egg - after shooting down some MIGs Merlin (I think it was him) said something about explosions looking better than in Falcon 3.0.

Also the F-16 model used in game was featured in pre-release screenshots, I've seen in some games magazine, of the Falcon 4.0 which was still in development at that time.
