Hello Pilots

Just reinstalling EEAH/EECH after a long absence and on a machine where it's not lived before. (Which runs on XP.)

I've never tried the All Mods patch before and was (am) exited to see the changes it makes. But sadly I end up with the error message. "this application failed to start because OpenAl32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."

After five attempts at "reinstalling the application", the last two of which involved getting pretty creative by my standards, I decided that reinstalling was not going to help me, so I thought I'd ask you instead.

The procedure I am following is;
Install EEAH.
Run it.
Patch to 1.1e
Run it.
Install EECH.
Run it.
Patch to 1.14c.
Run it.

(Up to this point everything is fine and the game opens ok, except for an odd double mouse pointer effect... oh well.)

Install EECH ALLMODS 1.13.0.
After which it won't open anymore and I get the error message. But if I uninstall EECH and install it again without the mod, it opens as before.

Sadly I am not very technical at all and I really can't see why the mod can't find this file which must be there for it to work ok up to 1.14c.

I tried getting clever and locating the file before modding, so that I could copy it and then paste it back in afterward if the mod was somehow removing it. But I couldn't find it in the first place to do that, although subsequent research suggests it might have something to do with sound.

I tried looking the error message up on Google and it seems a common enough thing to happen on many programs. But the solutions they were giving were horrendous things involving deleting files from the PC itself, then installing an old one, then reinstalling the newer one again and...... well frankly I'm just not happy messing about with stuff like that, particularly since I don't have anything else which is affected and if I mess with it you can bet I screw the pooch and nothing will work anymore!

I have my fingers crossed that one of you clever fellas know of a Badger friendly solution. Because I'd love to play this excellent game in an all new reworked form, but I'm not prepared to risk messing up my PC to do it.

All the best

Badger

You have to Install openAl. Just Google Openal it should lead you to the creative labs website there you can download and install it.

Hi Badger,

OpenAL support was included in version 1.13.0 by Firebird to allow relevant soundcards (mine is an Audigy 4) to produce 5.1 surround sound and other stuff.

You can download the zip file for OpenAl here: http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx

It's the third one from the top called OALINST.

Just unzip it and run the program. It doesn't seem to do much for a while, but let it run.

Hope this helps,

Andy

Thanks for the replies fellas. Smile2

I took a deep breath Andy and went for it! 60 seconds later and "EECH" was off the landing pad and flying! cheers

I'll admit I wasn't comfortable until I'd double clicked just about every other icon on my desktop to make sure I didn't break anything. But sure enough they were all ok and now I can revisit my old friend "EEAH/EECH". Fantastic!

All the best

Badger

I used dll library http://fix4dll.com/openal32_dll to fix this error. You just need to download missing file, check it with anti-virus and add to your windows/system32 folder. THat's all.

1.16.0 test version has OpenAL-Soft (optionally) incorporated in the installation.
