Proposed build for my Python Trader using my Robigo money.
Basically looking for a "in the bubble big hauler" that can take care of itself. KWS for any HRES action if the mood strikes (or interdiction kills) and the ADS for missions.
Downgraded the 6 shields for 5A to increase cargo load by about 36 tons (IIRC) and tried to make up the difference with shield boosters.
Do I have enough shielding?

Any thoughts or advice?

Boost of only 348? I will wave as I speed past in my Clipper wink (Before finding I can't land as the damn thing is too big :D)

Sorry, I can't give any sensible advice as I have never flown a ship like that.

Looks good to me!

For super long haul needs, just swap that Class 4 cargo rack for a fuel scoop. Or swap the Class 5 rack, if you want better fueling speed, and still have 224 tons cargo space.

OH... Don't forget to adjust your module priorities (power management) to get the critical modules under the 50% mark. This is valuable in case you get into a situation where your power plant is sniped, and it drops to 50% power, you'll still have what you need online to escape.

I've set an example here. Things like the shield generator will already be offline if you are taking hull/module damage, so I move that and the shield boosters to a lower priority.

Oh very funny bailout!
I'll have a Clipper someday though that day may be in the year 2019 with the rate of my rank progression!

Thanks adlabs6 for the tip, advice, and module priorities.

It's the same build, only the power priorities are changed up a bit, on the lower left section. That way the Retracted power use falls below 50% for priority 1 modules.

Probably about the same date that I will have saved enough to buy a Python unless I get better at shadow deliveries. Once you get the Python I doubt you will want a Clipper other than as a novelty.

I had a quick play at a trading python build and came up with this one that may suit me to start with and then upgrade the thrusters later. http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/06D6D5A4D7D6D5C1e1e-2727----050505f504452t242f.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==

Approx 58m with discounts and my Clipper is worth 27m so only 31m to get.

Adlabs - Interesting on the priority settings. I have never considered adjusting those.

Your probably right about the Clipper vs the Python. My trader fit for the Python looks pretty good.

While I like the top speed of the Clipper the Python may be quite workable in the speed department and, as a total package, appears to be a much better ship for what I want - a big, capable "do-all" ship.

What I mean is that I found in the numerous Robigo interdictions top speed is nice and useful but boost speed, and having the power to be able to use it constantly, is apparently as useful as top speed.
During all those interdictions (and granted I didn't lose the mini-game too often) being able to continually boost in the Smuggler Asp kept me out of harms way. And the one time it didn't (vs a FAS IIRC - didn't remember them being that fast) my stout shields kept me out of trouble till I could jump.
Course the Asp boost speed is a fairly respectable 385-390 vs the 350 of the Python but it is better able to take care of itself. We will see!

I usually do the same for my trader builds, using the "next highest" slot for a A-rated shield. Will that be enough? Only time will tell but shield boosters are always a plus.

However, mixing trading and bounty hunting might not be a good idea. Firstly, your shield might not hold up. It may be good for the occasional trader interdiction, but it might not once you're fighting wings. Also, my old Python pew-pew build had 6A shields and two shield cell banks and I felt like it wasn't up to the task sometimes. Once they introduced the stupid heat mechanic for SCBs, my fit wasn't very good at all. I've not fiddled much with bounty hunting after that.

Second, all those weapons will cost you jump range. If your trade stops are only 11LY or less, then no problem. But if it is further, then you might end up taking 4 jumps instead of just 3 jumps due to your lower jump range. For instance, in your build, you only have 13.63LY laden jump range. Dropping your power plant, thursters, and power distributor to D-rated increases your jump range to 14.95LY. Dropping all your weapons and replacing the KWS to a fourth shield booster increases your jump range to 15.51LY. Is that good? Yes, better jump range is always good for a trader. Do you need that jump range? That would depend on your route.

Yes I could up some areas of performance by making it a "pure" trader and, funnily enough (you guys on here are kind of mind readers) I was just thinking that today. I have so much money from Robigo that I have more then enough to by a completely fitted out Vulture (my favorite BH beast) to satisfy the "pew-pew" urge.
Might give the above build a shot - the 500+ shields should be adequate I hope - and we will check the range on a few trade runs and/or missions.

Just d/l'ed the newest patch and am getting ready to jump back into the bubble to ship shop.

EDIT: Oddly, since I saved the game after my last mission delivery I didn't bother to check cargo since all the refugees were "ordered" so to speak.
On boot up I noticed the "Illicit Cargo" tag and somehow have 4 tons of slaves left over. Someone got cheated!
Had to "Discard" them to get rid of them as there was no market for them in the current system. "Discard" means set free right? Right?

That's right. They are now free and happy building their new life that they always dreamed of.

Discard just means you opened your cargo hold and let them out. In a station, I hope.

Although that still is "free," I'm not sure if it was good for them though. No papers, no "underground" that can connect them to the right people... at the very least, I bring them back to me to Robigo so that they can restart the immigration process.

I like "free". The garbage disposal sound on Discard had me worried till bailout nicely explained it all away.

Just to keep my legion of fans updated on Cmdr DIH (don't get why I don't have my own sticky here) I come to post again.
Actually I would rather be playing but RL (and the electric company) is interfering.
Upon my return from Robigo in my Smuggler Asp I bought a kitted out Vulture and went to finish the CG I started in Ipilyaqa destroying Emperors Dawn ships. Bout 180 LY from my home system/shipyard so it was quite a haul in the Vulture. Note to self: Fuel scoop size makes a big difference.
Hung around in the CG and blew up some ships, got bored, cashed in my combat bonds and returned to my home system.
Sold the Vulture and bought my Python as detailed in the OP.
Was ready for high adventure when electricity issues out here in the back country put the slap down to that idea. And I don't like running my expensive electronics off my generator.
I did plan on keeping the Vulture, to join my Smuggler Asp, and still buying the Python but I was surprised how bored I got at the CG...and real quick too.
Maybe I am liking the "Swiss army knife" ships (Cobra, Asp, Python) too much or a CG lacks the fun of BH'ing and a HRES.
In any case going to fly the Python for a while and see how it goes. And I can always get the Vulture again and probably will. May throw in a Cobra Mk III too just because I like to be the fastest ship in the area.
Bless those poor Robigo refugees!

Dih - How are you finding the Python now you have had it a while?

Excellent all-around multi-purpose ship.
I really have zero complaints. Great ship.
Running it as listed in my original post except I went to a A6 power plant. Same power roughly as the 7C but lighter by half IIRC so I gained jump range.
