Hi Bletchley,
Thank you for finishing this wonderful set of mission types!
And I've got a question for you (or anyone else who might know)...
I'm trying to create a mission type record to produce a fighter attack on an enemy factory (target type: towns).
This is the closet I've come to success:
28
Railyard Attack
Attack Enemy Factory
NULL
NULL
Today we are attacking the designated enemy factory - we must disrupt the production of war materials as much as possible.
Enemy
strike
towns
none
none
none
1
GroundAttack
EOR
This record produced a mission with A Flight directly assisting B Flight. I ran the full mission on autopilot and my flight (B Flight) simply turned around and went home after reaching the enemy factory. They weren't running (Going Home), they simply remained "In Transit" during the entire body of the mission (other than taking off and landing).
But A Flight picked up ground targets in their Activity Label (same as attacking an airfield or railyard) and dropped down and strafed the factory. I turned off autopilot and dropped down to watch for a few minutes, and the buildings showed damage, caught on fire, and collapsed and did all the things that happen on airfield and railyard targets. I made a couple of strafing passes, but my guys in B Flight had no interest in helping and didn't pick up any targets like they automatically do in an airfield or railyard attack. And when I turned autopilot back on my plane immediately turned and headed back home "In Transit."
So I know the AI can pick up a factory from a mission record and attack legitimate targets, but I can't figure out how to get my B Flight to automatically attack it without having to use that radar thingy and cycle through targets and all that.
I know factories are not a historically correct target, but have you found a way to do this? In particular, I wonder about other Line 2 options. I think Line 2 consists of predetermined text values, so I've only been trying the ones I know from your mission type set, but so far no joy for B Flight.
Any help would be appreciated. Or maybe you know for sure it can't be done. Was planning to try the same for some other target types like "troops" and "frontsectors" (had a similar near success with frontsectors when A Flight directly assisting B Flight dropped down and staffed units on the front lines while B Flight ignored the mission).
Thanks!
Buck
