Heya guys, wanted to share with you a little project i started working on for the B-17 enthusiast, like myself, and show ya some pictures. I love to fly my WOP B-17II in FSX, and there are many a time i feel alone with my bomber, so i did some digging around the internet and this is what i've gotten. First off i found some excellent RAF Airfields made by Ian-P, then i found a pretty decent B-17G AI to use for traffic, so i went ahead and put two and two together and VIOLA! currently i have filled up RAF Thorpe Abbotts with around 40 B-17G's parked in their respective parking spots. I am also currently working on Skinning every single bomber so that each have their own unique nose-art and tail number(22 finished so far). With these great finds i can finally taxi past other B-17's while me and my crew go on a training mission. This adds alot of immersion for me so i am sure it would too for others, so here are some screens. Please note: Many of the nose arts are from bombers of different squadrons, but here i used them for nose-art and is not supposed to represent a 100% historical representation of the airfield or the squadron stationed there. Top down view of the base, you can see all the B-17's parked about: Joker standing by to taxi for training mission: 8 Ball Express: oOld Soljer: "Flak-Wolf": Yankee Doodle Dandy: Heading towards this group to tell them mission is ago: Bad Check waiting to start engines: Bad Check left side view: More B-17's: Joker is ready to roll: Hope you enjoyed! this is as close to a B-17 simulation as i am going to get nowadays, so i find is pretty fun to practice my touch and go's and doing circuits around the airfield...maybe a few low level buzzing (hehe) Also the MAIN reason for starting this project, is that i have a Final due in 3 months which i am to make a mini movie with what ever i want about whatever i want. So of course I've decided to make one about a mission over germany, featuring of course the 17's. Starting with the initial taxing and take off, to using Il2:1946 for large formation grouping and combat footage and bombing scene, all the way back to returning home. I'll be sure to share the movie with you guys once i am close to finishing production. Cheers.

,
SWEET! I love the Flying Fortress, ever since watching "Twelve O'Clock High" (the movie) when I was about seven, and the TV series of the same name a few years after that. It is not only a legendary aircraft, but also represents one of those rare moments when technology and design took an unprecedented leap forward in a single moment. Think about it, its first flight was in 1935, with its official introduction three years later. Now think about the heavy bombers that preceded it. Talk about out-of-the-box thinking by the Boeing design team back in the day. Of course, I could be biased. As I said, I do love the thing.

I did give it a try way back in about 2001 or so, but got very frustrated because my machine at the time simply could not handle it. I do remember though that it was pretty damned incredible.

@MudWasp - Thanks, i do enjoy the Bomber very much, i feel like i own a real one almost @JFM - Yeah, i own the A2A version and it is indeed splendid! The other B-17's that i have painted up and placed through out the airfield are from a AI pack, which works better than trying to have 30+ A2A models work as AI (Major Frame Killer) from an untrained eye you can really tell the difference. @Louvert - Twelve O' Clock High, Memphis Belle, Hell's Angels, countless documentarys..you name it and i've seen it. All great watches. And just imagine if A2A did redo The Mighty Eighth..that would be the simply amazing! I remember playing The Mighty Eighth forever ago, it was fun for a little bit. One thing i hated about it was that the formation only consisted of about 12 bombers i believe. For me, that just wasn't enough, there usually were around 100+ up there and games just were not capable of re-capturing that. Which is probably why no one has bothered trying to give the B-17 a proper simulation...yet. After playing Battle Of Britain 2: Wings of Victory, i imagined that it would be doable, i mean the large formations you see from the German bombers was crazy! Now just picture the He-111's being replaced with B-17's...almost there! i am sure, before i am too old to play flight sims any more, maybe...just maybe this will happen. But until then, A2A will just have to do.

You can use the full blown Control Tower View in FSX without having to be online. From the "Multiplayer" menu choose the "Local Network(LAN)" option. Then hit the "Sign In" button. When the "Mutilplayer" screen comes up push the "Host a Session" button. This will take you to the next "Multiplayer" menu screen where you can choose "Session Type". Choose "Free Flight" and then hit the "Next" button. You should now be looking at the Multiplayer version of the FreeFlight setup menu. In the "Select Role" menu select "Air Traffic Controller". From that point on just setup a flight as you normally would offline. The important part is to "Save" the flight. You might want to add "Tower View" to what ever you name the flight. What ever airport you have selected under "Current Location" will be the control tower you will be watching from. At this point DO NOT hit the "Next" button. Instead, back all the way out to the regular non-multiplayer FreeFlight menu. Under your saved flight menu you should now have your saved control tower view flight. When you start that flight up you'll find yourself in a fully decked out control tower at the airport you picked. You can save multiple control tower views at different airports if you like. Once you're in the tower, turn up the AI traffic settings and enjoy. BTW Using the default FSX cockpit movement commands allows you to walk around the tower and access all of the fully functional radar/atc screens. There ya go..fully functional Tower in singleplayer

I had the Mighty Eight on my other PC ( running W XP ) and it was great fun and a hand full to try to do all of the Ten jobs.
I would like to run it on this rig, but some of the patches are lost in cyber space. I have asked several times about those game patches and so far no luck.
I still have the disk and manual ( yes a real book with words and pictures ).
Origin made- silverstone case,ASUS Max VI Extreme , CPU intel Core i7 4770k, cooling asotex 570LC, NVIDA 3G GTX 780 Ti , Mem 16GB Kingston Hyper X DDR3 ,game drive 120GB INTEL X25 SS, OS drive 1TB, Win 7 home Prem.Logitech G105 key board,BenQ XL2430 Gaming Monitor.
