Salute

Santa was very kind to me this year, well my butt hurts anyway.

I (we) had a nice wack of x-mas money this year and the wife (after some +18 acts) finally caved in and said "oh, ok, by a new PC". Not bad for only once a year. (X-Mas!)

I have a link, in Hun, and would like a few sujestions from those with knowledge.

- I guess a pentium I5 as a €700 rig is not possible.
- GPU that is big, but quiet and don't need its own nuke-power-station. I was looking at the GTX 750ti
- not realy interested in a SSD thingy
- W7

anyway have a go and let me know bitte.

danke.
Mark

This is my rig, made by the "ORIGIN" folks and like it a lot.

The SSD for the "gaming drive" is a wise choice, and a regular drive for all of the OS stuff is working fine.

I just saw that you are in Germany, so the USA makers may not work.

For sure a big CPU is a must, and the same goes with a FGC being as big as your pocket book can stand.

Where you place the PC so it gets lots of cool air is very important. My PC is in front of a window that is on the shady side of our home -- thus cool air all the time.

Good Luck with your search!

I just added a second 1GB SSD drive to my system, replacing my old Western Digital 7200 RPM Cavier Blue. All of my Steam games go on that drive and I must say that there is a noticeable improvement on Skyrim with load times. Anywhere between 1 and 4 seconds at most to load in a new location (like exiting a dungeon and coming out into the open world) and there's no stutter at all that I've noticed as I walk around the open world when it needs to load in new textures, etc. I can't say what your budget is, but if you can afford SSD, it is a nice quality of life improvement.

That said, when it comes to WOFF, I recommend the following - in this order:

1. 4+ GB of RAM.
2. The fastest core speed you can afford. How many cores doesn't matter as WOFF just uses one. I prefer Intel.
3. Fast video card with at least 2+ GB of RAM. 3GB if you can afford it.
4. If you can get all that, then a nice SSD drive speeds texture loading but the other stuff is more important.

I would not go for a SSD and get the extra's Euro's you will spare on a GTX960, so your be ready for WoFFgold.
Also keep informed about the right PSU watts, when going for a complete system, these could be rather low for an additional Vcard.

high power CPU below 700,- system1 use your own OS

Selecting Your prefered Pentium but for a couple of Euro's you will get an i3 system 2 use your own OS

The problem using AMD is the lots of core they are using while CFS3 is just a plain single core game.

update....wife saw the price and gave the evil look.
Was thinking of just changing the mobo/cpu/ram and keep what I have already, then an intel would be possible.

I didn't see a video card listed, so that's important. Also, it lists the size of the drive, but it doesn't list the speed (how many RPMs). It's probably a slower 5400 RPM drive but that will still work, it might just take a little longer to load up the missions. Otherwise the specs look ok.

sent them a mail asking the specs. The Konfigurater allows either a 750ti or gtx 960 4gb

....I could use what I have now and sneak in a 960 later

I'd probably go with the GTX 960 4GB if you can swing it.

Lederhosen, what kind of system do you have right now. Maybe it is just a matter of a new CPU, Vcard and extra RAM.

BTW I think the HP is on the same price as this one I have configurated for WoFF:

incl bigger PSU for the additional GTX960 which cost 215,- extra.
Selected 4Gb RAM and 500Gb HD, the HP was 8Gb/1000Gb HD
Maybe you can use your old RAM and use the old HD as an extra storage on this system.

Note: Because this is not an overclockers system, nor is the HP BTW, I would go for the i3-4360.

I have a biostar a730l3l mobo with an Athelon quad 640 3ghrz, with 8 gb 1600 ram.

The mobo will only allow an upgrade to a phenom cpu and thats not really gona help (?)
I made the mistake 5 yrs ago (due to ignorance) of getting this mainboard.

As it stands, at my age I'm not interested in any other Sims except Woff and Roff.

Guess we play the same games.

If you have an 2x4GB DDR3 PC1600 than this can be used.
Only I do not know if a modern dual core can play RoF, but if your old AMD is a dual core and could run Rof, the i3 can do this much better.

If you are pressed for cash, perhaps start a little fund for the project, and wait for WOFF Gold. My SSD is getting tight on space, but I think if I can hang in there for WOFF Gold, it may be time for the new guts.

That being said, review my specs below. I have an ASUS P8P67-M Pro Rev 3.0 mother board that isn't listed, and the video card has only (?!) 1.5GB of RAM. It runs WOFF just fine. While I haven't been in any huge furballs, I'm maxed out on the detail sliders. I tease my IT fellow at work that I built this thing in 2011 and it still beats everything in the office, and we're supposed to be doing fancy engineering analysis!

He is also wanting to run RoF and I do not know if a Intel i3 dualcore CPU's can run RoF. I know from the past, Jay Dolan did some testings that did give as a result RoF is using 3 cores.

@Lederhosen, why not get a motherboard and a Intel quad core CPU.
If your old system can run a GTX460, then this PSU most be sufficient for a GTX960!
So you can use everything from your old system and can run a quad that is capable of running RoF!!

Think you will need:
60-100,- on motherboard that can use DDR3 RAM. As a sample the Asrock ASRock B85M Pro4 65,-
200,- for a Intel BOXED i5-4460 Quad using its stock cooler.
200,- for a GTX960-2Gb

So if there is no need of overclocking and you can cannibalize your old system, for about 500,- euro you can run RoF and Woff.

edit: I know the German prices are lower them prices in the Netherland, so maybe it is even cheaper. Do your search on specialized computer web sites that have a pricewatch or can compare shopprices.

This mobo is only 2€ less than the Asrock.

So it comes down to replacing the mobo and CPU, connecting all the others things and hoping W7 does not require a new install...correct?
When my gtx460 dies then I can get a better card.

You need to reinstall the complete HD and reinstall W7

I did overlook something and that is most cheap mobo's do have only two RAM slots, if this is OK then stay if not get another choice.
Here some readings, between the Asrock and the MSI:

Tomshardware.com <- link

According to some reviews the MSI could have some difficulties regarding the Bios.

Btw the price is in the Netherlands cheaper, that can not be the case Germany is normally much cheaper. Here we pay 21% TAX included.

edit: I see it is a special MSI ECO version, not the regular H81M MSI <- link

This Intel i5 has a turbo mode up to 3.4Ghz. But your MSI board seems to be a ECO board I do not know if here is something that allows you to consume more power for Overclocking. The H81 chipset and the i5 are very limited in OC, I always go for the expensive k series and a chipset that allows OC.

Please read the links from Toms hardware.com I have sent in. All the info about cheap motherboards, how to select and how to install can be found on that website.

I would get the regular MSI board and not the ECO, I never found something that allows you to overclock .
