I got the idea from watching this video too many times: https://youtu.be/qUXoNUzAyvk?t=15m55sDefinitely watch the whole thing if you've not seen it. Those tools would make things a bit easier for sure.

Update on my mustang pedals: The enclosure I built for my fakerbot has vastly improved my ABS print quality (as in, it doesn't fail now) allowing me to print the parts with 5 shells. This means the pedal itself is solid plastic except for a bit around the tube. It is heavy and very strong. The fork is printed with the same settings with the parts fastened together with threaded rod. I fused the parts with ABS "glue" as well. Here are some pics of a test fitting. Now it's sanding time! Lots of pics here: http://imgur.com/a/czCsb I got some nice coated steel cable from a surplus store, and will be using it for control lines just like the real thing, only they'll run into a loop under the "floorboard" plywood base. I got some nice 28mm needle roller bearings for the top of the fork, and I'm using skate bearings in the pedals. The whole contraption will use 3 or 4 hall sensors and a teensyarduino to get singals into DCS. It was really exciting to finally put it together today and feel the swing motion of a real mustang rudder pedal. Oh and yes, that grease fitting is functional
