And they still fit into their uniforms.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

And they still fit into their uniforms. The Canon Fodder they sent into action would never have looked so good. Great Photos, Thanks.

And they still fit into their uniforms. Not without a little help. Some of the soldiers have gained weight over the years since they fought for the Emperor; their uniforms have been let out to accommodate their girth. Wheels

I hope I look that good in my 70s/80s.
Tempted to call "stolen valour" on sergeant Delignon though! He looks to be in his 50s or 60s- definitely much younger than the others.

Aside from the uniforms the job has basically been the same since we've had standing armies. It's always odd thinking about how recently these guys were alive and doing this sort of thing. The 1800s sound like a long, long time in the past, but it was really only a few lifetimes ago that the idea of war was cavalry charges and sailing ship broadsides.

A more likely date however, is May 5, 1858, because all the veterans are wearing the Saint Helene medal which had been issued on August 12, 1857 to all veterans of the wars of the Revolution and the Empire. https://library.brown.edu/collections/askb/veterans.php

Awesome PM, thanks.
May be a coincidence, but most of those surviving vets were cavalrymen. Maybe they just had cooler uniforms for pics.

Both my grandfathers were born in 1894 and 1895 respectively so for me the late 1800's anyway are not that far in the past. Wheels
