Just wondering if there a power boating type simulation, not really military... but with currents, wind effects etc etc... did a google search, a couple of low end safety type online boating sims... but anyone know of a more detailed, higher in sim?

I've never tried any of them but I think some of the Ship Simulators and Virtual Sailors were pretty good. Not sure though on a more technical one. There must be something out there like a bare bones simulator/training tool for folks in the maritime industry or even a military training tool.

http://www.pcmaritime.com/maritime-training/simulators/scs-2009.html This looks pretty cool. Contact info seems to be UK English.

http://www.maritimelogic.com/maritime-trainer-download.html this is a 30 day trial/license? of a maritime simulator

These are click and play free boating task simulator tools

Now this is pretty cool Magnum. I just found this but its a ship simulator(I imagine its not really a simulator) but it uses Google Earth. What I was thinking would be cool about this freebee is that you could actually get down water level so to speak and actually cruise about the actual locations you'd be travelling doing your new assignment. Might give you a good bit of info of actual waterways in your city.

There is also "Dangerous Water" http://www.sonalystscombatsimulations.com/dangerous_waters/index.html

Great simulation with selectable levels of complexity. Some reading might be involved.

It is also available on steam.

vStep makes simulators for the maritime industry, and they also make a spin off Ship Simulator Etremes which has power boats along with wind and current effects.

Ship sim extremes and the proffesional one are not focused on realism.
Shipsim is just a arcady creation that they could make out of their pro sim with almost no effort.

Their pro one is focused on full mission bridge simulation, Training young officers how to handle and command a ship, where the controls are at, and how to operate, NOT how to sail a ship. (and yes I have used both of them and Kongsbergs simulator, which is similair)

They do not give a realistic representation. As of now, I do not know a game with advanced hydrodynamics. WoWs gave it their swing wich gives a bit of a feeling. I have to try the vbs one yet, their vids are promising, but I do not expect much.

Ship sim is very dead at the moment. No support what soever. servers are down. no one active on the forum. World ship simulator is super arcady, nautissim is close to ship sim (thats the vstep pro one) and not for sale for private people.

You can give the people at http://www.transas.com/products/simulation a try. I have heard they helped people in the past. but have your $$$$.$$ ready (yes four infront atleast)

For the rest? we only can hope,
