Yes it supports it. Used to fly with it. Others fly with even higher resolutions!

I'm using that and it's a great compromise between recource-eating 4k and normal 1920x1080. IMO 4k is not developed enough, and way too expensive, yet to be standart. WQHD looks great. But beware that your Screen is big enough. Personally I wouldn't buy anything less then 27" with WQHD. HTH

There you also have all price classes. You can look for G-Sync, 120 Ghz etc. Of course the higher, the more GPU demanding it is, and the more expensive. I have WQHD 27" with 60 Ghz for a reasonable price and I'm quite happy. No performance loss compared to my old 25,5" 19200x1200.

If you are going with a new AMD card, make sure your new monitor supports Freesync and you will really notice a visual improvement in your flying.

I use a 2550x1440 G-sync monitor to play WOFF (since I use NVidia cards) and it definitely smooth's out your FPS when the game drops below 60 FPS.

GPU = RTX 3080 Ti
Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

I've been considering a Free Sync monitor to be able to play in 25600x1440. I'm retiring in a month and plan on finally spending a lot more time flying WOFF. 31" wide screen should add a lot to the immersion.

FWIW, I tried the built-in downsampling through Crimson software's Virtual Super Resolution, downsizing 2560x1440 to my 1920x1080 monitor. It looked great while flying, but VSR caused the menu screen to be cropped when exiting a mission.

Try setting your Desktop resolution to the same thing and see if it still crops to menu screens.

Another 2k believer here. I actually bought a beautiful 4k for almost the same price, but nothing I owned could play well on it.

2k is very nice even w/o Freesync or the other one and I found that WOFF didn't really mind the extra res up to 2k that much.

All my shots on the screenshot thread are 2k resized to 1600.

I had the chopped menus as well trying to run WOFF at 2k on a 4k monitor. The only way to fix it was to turn my desktop into an eye chart!

Thanks for the advice. That works. Hadn't had to do that with most game titles.

When flying in formation to the right, behind the leader, does 2560 allow the plane to your left, to be visible without having to turn (track ir)? On my 1920 screen that plane is just off of or right on the edge of the screen.

The only difference between 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 is the horizontal view, not the vertical view. As a result, you may be able to see the plane just off of your right side.

Not to start trouble, but 2560x1440 and 1920x1080 have the same aspect ratios (1.7778:1). Therefore, if the vertical fov is the same then the horizontal will be, too. The former just has a greater resolution than the latter.

Not true. My original monitor is a 1920x1200 and with my new 2560x1440 monitor, you can see more horizonally that my original monitor, but nothing more vertically. I also tested this on my 1920x1080 laptop screen and you see more horizonally on the 2560x1440 monitor than on the laptop.

Decent PC monitors are 1200 deep (=free toolbars on screen ;)). Just the "HD" fad actually made most of them smaller to 1080 pixels (and cheaper to make). So 1.6:1 ratio on 1920x1200, and 1.78:1 on 2560x1440.

Math is math, Red: the ratio is the same. Must be something else giving the appearance of a wider fov.

I will post the pictures when I get home so you can see the differrence between the two different monitors, and then you can see the difference in horizonal width.

vonBaur is right. All 16:9 monitors have the same aspect ratio and the same FOV inside the game (unless some games automatically scale the FOV according to monitor's resolution). However, you'll see more detail with the higher pixel density monitors.

2560/1440 = 1.78
1920/1080 = 1.78
1600/900 = 1.78
1280/720 = 1.78

EDIT: The higher the monitor's resolution, the higher you can go on FOV. ...of course without getting that fisheye distortion, then you know you've reached your FOV limit.
cool

Just reread this and spotted the errors (mine and Red's).

Red, your post to which I first responded compared 1920x1080 to 2560x1440, which are the same aspect ratio. In your reply to me you said that your original monitor was 1920x1200, which I didn't notice at first (prompting me to press the issue) and which does have a narrower aspect ratio than 2560x1440. I apologize for my error and I don't think this needs further discussion.

Pol seems to be the only one who caught this and he did so immediately, proving why he's the one who deserves to be on the dev team: attention to detail. wink
