Yes, they can fly, quite well to. This one flew up on top of my 4 story Apt after the cop shot at it with his 9mm when it was only 3 ft away from him attacking him. Must have just parted some feathers and convinced it was time to fly. We all watched it fly up on the roof. It then flew into the grass on the hill out back.
This was back in 2006, my first video upload to youtube, Jay Leno even used it.
Yep, maybe 15 years ago I was driving on I89 just outside Concord NH and saw a semi hit a flying turkey. It destroyed the passenger side windshield and kept flying. For how long, I don't know, but it made it to the woods bordering the road.

It varies. Wild turkeys can fly. Most, but not all domestic turkeys can fly but to a lesser degree. Even then some can fly when young, but not when they mature. Most turkeys raised on farms for food cannot fly. So that is the topic on the WKRP comedy skit. They got turkeys from a farm raised for food and they could not fly.

There are no wild turkeys in this part of the world but my grandfather and uncles raised turkeys for decades and I can testify that even if they had the physical capability , the typical farm turkey is too stupid to fly

It's KRT not Kurt
I actually just saw a turkey fly for the first time yesterday. I was driving up a ridge on one of the worst gravel roads I think I have ever seen when something caught my eye. A wild turkey flew across the road to join the flock on the other side. It was also the biggest number of turkeys I have seen outside a farm.
