Looks pretty good, thanks for sharing the link. I wonder if they model any other positions in the tank, other than the driver?

6) You can control a tank either single-handedly (switching between driver and gunner) or with another player who will occupy gunner seat.

Thanks for those links, I haven't been keeping up with IL2 development.

The head of the games development has stated that they are fully committed to the aviation aspect of this game, and there will not be an armoured 'sim' component...
All they are doing is giving the players a different perspective of the battle, by allowing them to move around the battlefield from a closed down perspective in either a drivers, or gunners view from a couple of tanks.

Whether they will migrate to a stand alone more advanced module in the future is anybody's guess... however, if you remember 777's outright denial that they were moving from WWI to a WWII combat sim awhile back? Who knows what might happen in the future.

here a Panzer Mission:

The tank battle of Kalatsch

The 6th army attacked the Russian troops west of Kalatsch in the morning of August, 7th 1942. to encircle them in a cauldron battle.
Already in the evening the pocket could be closed to the west of the Don river by the 16th tank division to the north and by the 24th tank division to the south.

Today, August, 8th, our tank forces continue the attack on the encircled Russian troops.

So much better than the crap that WOT and WT have been serving us for year!...There is no contest, those are great beginnings and awesome different perspective of the battlefield.

After using that sim for several weeks now, I can attest that unlike most " MP armor sims" which favor balanced gameplay and the comfort of lazy gamers, the efforts of IL-2 are geared toward conscientious WWII historical reproduction.

I never recall them denying they were moving to WWII. A link would be helpful. smile

OFGS... I'm not going to hunt down the post!
I don't lie, I have good morals and I'm a trustworthy person, and I remember when rumours were circulating in the RoF forums that 777 were moving on to a WWII sim... it was denied (for obvious reasons) by Jason himself I believe.

I can understand that it had to be kept quiet if the deal had not been finalized.

The point is, Loft stated that the game would not move in the direction of spending time on tank development. But now it's being mooted that if there is enough interest in the tank side they may bring in more of them... see where it's heading already?

If the dev's moved into a direction of eventually making a separate tank sim from the flight sim side, I'm sure there would be a lot of interest... let's face it, the forum is full of tank interested posts now.

I can't buy the Dev's comments about staff members who had extra time on their hands, so they modeled tanks. Or the comment about "wanting us high-fliers to experience" ground action. When I was in the s/w business, every thing was put thru ROI scrutiny.

I'm pleased that they added tanks and would purchase a separate, though integrated, tank add-on or sim.

Meh, i had a blast in WTGF in sim event mode, you could use some good tactics and set up some nice flank attacks, encirclements and come at the rear etc. Some of the maps were terrible and playing standard mode was more call of duty than anything plus the MM in non sim was shocking mostly. Never played WoT so no idea, never liked the look of it. Be keeping an eye on this though for sure, any WWII tank game that leans more towards historical gets my vote.

Edit- So is this out? How many players, how big are the battlefields, is there a campaign etc ?

You have to by the 'flight sim' BoS... that allows you to join MP and roam around the battlefield in a tank.
There are a couple of SP missions out I believe.

Are a map with battle with many AI in a area of 2x2 KM - in what players can join - but not limited to this area, planes can spawn in fields 10/15KM away, tanks can go there if want.

In some maps you need drive 10/15 for capture point, if no meet enemy tanks in the way.

In WoL and DED-Ramdon servers tanks are part of the mission anc can capture areas, airfields.

The tank player count is low, the "novelty" faded away fast, so if find 10x10 players in tanks is luck.
But this dont make the usage less interesting. I and two other guys in the "fish tin can" PZKpfw III (armed with fireworks instead "cannon") hold a capture point against 4 T-34 in a 30 min battle. smile

Since the T-34 is the "Bf 109/Fw 190" of the tanks, Panzers are always outnumbered (besides outgunned). smile
