Hey guys!
I have an Issue with the clouds in RoF. As soon as I update my Catalyst Driver to anything newer than 13.12, the Clouds begin to flash/flicker. It's not like they are flashing constantly, but it still is very anoying. This happened to me on mutltiple systems.
Back then I did not relly care, I just used Version 13.12. By now the Catalyst Driver is at Version 15 and if I install the old one, I only get half the FPS that I have with the new Version in games like GTA5 or Assassins Creed Unity.

Is this a known issue and is there a fix for that? Did not find anything with google.

Graphics Card is a AMD Radeon HD 7950.

I've never seen this, but my drivers are at least a year old. I do get the "jerky clouds", though.

Boy, if DirectX 11 (i.e. DCSW 2.0) resolves much of the flaky behavior and performance issues in AMD cards, I may never go back to the RoF/IL-2 series.

The problem is always that those drivers are optimized for new popular games and never for a small flight sim niche. Ok, maybe WT is the exception inhere. And if you also run Win7 you are double packet, because Win8.1&10 does have more priority.
I'm only playing RoF, WoFF, BoS & Clod-ATAG and I only upgrade drivers when somebody in a forum notice an improvement.

You could delete the whole AMD crap and try RadeonPro

I must warn you, a couple of years ago I did not notice any improvements running RadeonPro on RoF, but things may be changed. Do not underestimate RadeonPro, as a sample a couple of years ago RadeonPro did show a better performance when running CrossfireX then AMD own software.

Strange that DCSW2 still wanting to use the old DirectX11 and not the DirectX12, which does have lots of improvements and the whole development kit is released much earlier for developers, so they should have know. Think that is the whole problem in flightsim market, just keep the old conservative way and you will reduce automatically to a nice market.

You're surprised? Really? They've only been working on DX11 since its release in 2009, to implement it finally in 2015.

We'll get DX12 in 2021 for DCSW 3.

One of the reasons for supporting DirectX 11 might be that DirectX 12 is not available on Windows 7, which is still the most used desktop OS (60%).

Missed this one.

Not familiar with your gpu BUT.............

I have a 7990 (dual gpu card) and I found that my sky does the same thing BUT only when I have Crossfire activated.

My system is based on an MSI m/b I put together with an o'clocked i7 at 3.8 ghz and I have to admit that I see absolutely ZERO difference in performance between the two settings. I'd need some kind of FPS counter to tell any difference because the frame rates without Crossfire engaged are totally fluid.

ANYWAY, if you have Crossfire engaged, turn it off and see what happens.

Thank's for the answer.
I think I've already checked that, but I can't remember. Will look into it asap.

I don't have the issue that often by now, but I am not really sure why. Sometimes it happens, but most of the times the clouds are beautiful smile

I had that issue as well and I went to 13.x for a while believing it was the driver, but I'm now on 15.7.1 and I no longer have that issue and though I don't remember now what it was I changed exactly but I think it was in the settings of the CCC that I changed it. Morphological Filtering is off and Surface Format Optimization is Off and most everything else to Use App settings. In the game graphics I turned HDR off but everything else is Med (grass, shadows) to High. Maybe this will help you narrow it down.

Also you should go to the AMD site and fill out the form:

http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D27DA35884

If we can get enough folks to fill out this report, we may get something done. I filled it out and they thanked me for my input

I turned off Morph filtering and the cloud flashing went away with Crossfire being ENABLED.

Thanks for the clue.

Sadly, none of the above worked for me. It's still there.
Filled out the form on the AMD site.

Show us your adjustments in catalyst and RoF, a picture says more than words.

Those are my catalyst settings. Did not really do anything here, except making sure, that morp filtering is disabled.

In rof I tried fiddling with the crossfire and hdr settings, not much more I can do here, is there?

I guess I just have to hope, that the problem will be solved with one of the newer amd drivers...

screen resolution 1680x1050 sounds to me very 1999, are you sure on that?
desktop resolution must be te same as RoF resolution.
try:
Vsync off in Catalist not needed RoF ones is much better
OpenGL triple buffering not needed so off

In RoF
reflections off
Shadows special high or off

On another note-have you tried anti-aliasing at 4 instead of 8?

From a visual perspective I don't see a lot of difference but I would imagine it would make things a good bit "smoother" on your machine-especially with lots of close-in action.

I have a rather old Monitor, so the 1999 resolution is the best it can do wink
Thank's for the help guys, sadly it did not work.

Guess I have to live with it for now.
