Hi, it seems that the support function for the Buttkicker is down, so I ask you guys: I'm starting to build my version of a play seat shortly. I have already made a seat based on the wooden Schick-Johnson seat as used in P-51's. My version will have 'normal' seat legs on which the seat is screwed. To have the best effect from the Buttkicker, should I screw the seat direct on the legs or shall I put vibration dampers in between?
Thanks for any info

WEll if the seat base is wood screw or bolt it directly to that.. the vibration dampners are for the legs to the floor but might not be needed.. I don't use the dampners on my buttkicker..

Can you post a screenshot of the seat to see it better ..

Hi Nephilim, it's not a real screenshot but the SketchUp drawing will do

The seat legs are plywood, 40 mm thick. My idea was that the dampners would keep the vibrations in the seat where they're most wanted, without transferring it to the main frame
Equipment: Warthog with stick extension, Crosswind pedals, Saitek Flight Quadrant and, of course Buttkicker2. Didn't draw the castorwheels that are on the front. I think to use this next to my office chair. Pull out office chair, put in the play seat and fly.

I do have my seat mounted on vibration dampers.
However, they are not mounted for the reason you may think.

Your question was phrased, "...To have the best effect..."
In that regard, I have to agree with Nephilim, that they may not be needed.

My setup has the Buttkicker mounted to a steel plate and rod mounted under the seat.
I tested my seat with and without dampers. I noticed no appreciable difference in effect.

So why did you use them?....you're asking. smile

My audio system is split into three sections.
The headphone audio, in the helmet...The speaker audio (2 speakers and a sub), in the cockpit....and the Buttkicker, on the seat.

Typically, I have all 3 on, at the same time. Loud in the cockpit. Enhanced by the Buttkicker. Kept close by the headphones.
In the daytime, this is ideal. However, at night I would switch off the cockpit audio and just use the helmet.
Without the dampers, I would also have to turn off the Buttkicker, as the vibrations transferred through the pit and into the rest of the house were VERY noticeable!

So the dampers equal late night fun, without pissing off the family.
Food for thought.

@ Nephilim: the Buttkicker will be mounted to a short steel table leg, just aplate with a rod attached to the seat bottom with four carriagebolts. The seat will also be mounted with carriagebolts to its legs.

@ GrizzlyT: food for thought, indeed

Both thanks for the reply's
