I bought the definitive edition for cheap for XB1 way back when, played about 4 hours into it... was good, but as usual I moved on... now I have the latest version. and still no time to play it with FALLOUT 4 and now, today, Star Wars Battlefront on my plate.

it seems the first...modern one... was about here surviving the wreck...this one seems to be how she became an adventure... my question, for any who have played or playing one or both... do I really need to finish that first one...is it like a continuation, or a fresh start, a fresh game?

is this new one, more of a current trend open world thing, where you do what you want basically, and go where you want, or more linear like the original and last one?

I picked up the last one but never finished it, was always into the war games more. I was looking into picking this game up after hearing feedback.

It's a direct sequel, can't say if you absolutely need to play the previous game but from what little I've read there are some tie in s and references. I though the first game was rather stale and dull. Will probably buy the new one when it's on sale.

I've got to wait unfortunately until it comes out for PS4 or PC. I played about %80 percent of it on PS3 before going to the PS4 and then later PC. I don't think you have to finish it if you don't want to. If anything if time or desire isn't there is to just watch a video clip montage on youtube if it exists to get the story.

I think its worth playing through though. It does start off a bit slow and QTEish but it gets better as you gain experience and unlock new weapon upgrades.

As I recall, the Tomb Raider of a couple years ago was a self-contained story where the goal was to defeat a boss character so Lara and her friends could escape the island. I haven't picked up the new game yet but I anticipate it will be an equally singular adventure.

If you didn't complete the first game in the current reboot, it does get better as you unlock areas of the island including WWII bunkers and high mountain temples, and complete the various weapons needed to battle increasingly challenging enemies. It isn't my favorite in the history of the TR franchise, but overall it balanced exploration, puzzle solving and storytelling very well.
