I decided to give the (PTU) Arena Command a try after not flying it for some months.
Till now I managed best with the
HOTAS combination mouse/throttle/rudder. As a flightsim geek I never really liked the idea of using the mouse but with the ministick on the throttle for pitch and role it somehow worked for me. (flying the Hornet)
Last few days I tried the latest PTU 1.3 Arena Command. I Noticed that using mouse somehow did not work for me anymore.. It seems to be slow. Not feeling for using the mouse anyway I tried using the
HOTAS Stick/Throttle/Rudder. First did some fiddling with the joystick curves.(never did that in AC before)
I must say I’m surprised how much fun I had in the Drone module of AC.. Wave after wave killing Vandules.. putting them in my gunsight , finally be able to control the flying with rudder and stick! (yaw on rudder
) It almost feels like flying a WW2 sim without the energy fight.
It is still a lot of hard work, but that’s how I remember Sim’s like BoB or dog fighting in Falcon and flanker.. Using the boost button to keep in a good position and duck astroids, using missiles only when in a good position and when it is really needed like at the start of a new wave of Vandule fighters.
And there is this cool dynamic zoom function. It zooms in when you pull the throttle back from 50%. So when you lined up for a shoot pull the throttle a bit and you get this cool “Battlestar Galactica” effect witch you can control to get a nice zoomed target.
I could not get in a good PvP session so don’t know how that will workout but I realy like I for so far.
Chance is that players with mouse control don’t have to work as hard as we stick users do and beat the crap outta me. Unless they really changed something with the mouse control?
