Hey all,

I never got deep into BMS 4.32 and though I own the original Ringbinder I never flew the plain 4.0 Falcon.

So, while 4.33 is super tasty, it is a total exercise in frustration.

I found the keychart in the Docs Folder, but I can't even get simple things to work. Like, how do I pan the external view? How do I see my own Jet? I have mouselook working for my own craft, but it doesn't work for friendly AI. I can't find any procedures or guides for the new addon aircraft either (something as simple as: how to move the Harrier's noozles).

Maybe I'm too damn stupid, but this title is frustrating as hell. There's lots of advice in the docs, but the basics are no where explained.

In "Setup" under "Controllers and "Advanced" (button) you need the "Enable external mouselook" active:

(note that I've added the mouse wheel to control the field of view)

Using "8" to toggle other planes once you view the other press "0" and you should be able to pan that plane (not tested in 4.33) just as when you use external view on your own aircraft.

The only docs for the addon planes that I know of is the pdf's in [..\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Checklists & Cockpit Diagrams] folder where you'll also find the AV8B in particular.
In the AV8B cockpit, look down your left side and you should have "SVTOL" increase/descrease which I assume is the nozzle controls (just click until you reach the angle you need).

Thanks. I got mouselook activated but did not know to press Zero to pan planes.

I would think there must be a way to map the nozzles to an axis?

Generally wondering how to learn "the sim". Not the aircraft, not the systems, just to find my way around... there are so many descriptions about sensors and weapons, but few about actual gameplay.

Hay Colonel,

What controller do you have? Go to Main/Setup/Controller/Advanced/Flight Control. Here you will find Throttle axis assignement. See it detailed on page 4-48 of the BMS manual in your game directory Falcon BMS 4.33/doc/BMS manual. Not saying the learning curve is gonna be shallow... but worth it...

That's an interesting observation RS, been flying Falcon so long I really never think about such basics.

I would suggest to just run the training missions repeatedly until the basics get there.

When I flew with others I used to arrange for a short leg 4-set of missions all from the same base to the same bridge with the first without any opposition and the next against moderate AAA and then adding SAM and two fighters to increase the complexity for each mission while repeating the same flightplan and same target.

It seemed to help new pilots to gradually get the grip of whats going on around them.

I could recreate such a mission set if you think it would help you move forward (just state what plane you want to fly with)?

Thanks Oden for the offer, but I think once I get the hang of the actual gameplay controls, I'll manage. I was able to use various weapons on the bombing range and win 1:1 dogfights in 4.32 - but I've forgotten all the details since.

The thing really is that F4 doesn't follow any of the "usual" conventions. I can find my way around any Janes or IL-2 version, also DCS... but F4 has again a completely different approach to view control, switching aircraft, switching targets... plus the ton of sensors.

RS, the BMS folks actually did invest a lot of time and effort in documenting this sim for 4.33 .

Go to <wherever you installed it>\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals and start with BMS-Manual.

Piper has hit the nail on the head here. I am not a RTFM guy, but the BMS devs have really outdone themselves with this one and really did an outstanding job with the docs. Over 1,000 pages of instructions and an answer to (almost wink ) all the questions you could ask!

OK I am totally baffled also.

I have read the manuals and they seem to be written as though you already understand everything about the sim which doesn't really help.

How do I get my x-52 working with the sim?

I have imported the x52.pr0 file into my Saitek folder, no problems with this I do it with all sims. My problem is with the keys.

I have selected BMS - Full and when I press buttons the call back on the button is odd i.e. the second detent of my trigger shows as button 15 cms up.

I have read the key file editor manual and the key file manual and neither describe an actual procedure on how to install a key file relevant to your controller and where to get it from. The manuals seem to describe features and how things work but there are no procedures on how to accomplish what it is you are trying to do!

The BMS Key File Editor has a X-52 profile page which seems to have all the keystrokes corrected for the x-52. The read me says that the tool is pretty much self explanatory. I disagree.

I assume I need to export a .key file (this file type is referred to in the main BMS manual and suggests looking in the key files & input folder for further information) to some location so that it appears in the drop down menu in the sim, however the steps in the output tab are so poorly worded that it's difficult to understand what I am supposed to be doing. How do I obtain the necessary .key file for my x-52 to work?

The manuals seem to be geared toward telling you everything about features and what buttons do etc. Other than the training manual, none of the information is really geared to teaching you how to use features in a step by step manner.

Edit: OK I've managed to get it working by stabbing at buttons until I got the file, only took a couple of hours smile
