23 Mar 1917 @ 08h07 Patrol to enemy airfield at Flez

Briefing session indicated that wind would be 8 kn from the SW and medium density of cumulous from 609 to 1818 m.

I lead the flight with Theiller, Sturm, Neisen and Bussing accompanying.
The flight was quiet until we crossed the lines and then we had some bad luck. Both Neisen and Bussing were hit with flak bursts. I saw Neisen’s Alb smoking and he turned to return to Gonnelieu aerodrome. Bussing turned with us and we stayed with Neisen as we crossed the lines but I lost him in the cloud cover and when I came out on the other side he was gone and so was Bussing. One of the batteries on the line saw both go down. Neisen was picked up slightly wounded but his craft was a write-off. Bussing on the other hand was mortally wounded and his craft was also destroyed.

This was one of our worst days in the month. Two good men out of action and one possibly would not survive. What a waste! Theiller, Sturm and I landed at Gonnelieu and reported in. We left the office low in spirit and headed for the canteen for some coffee and a chance to recoup our spirits.

Lou’s version of Boistrancourt is evident in this mission.

24 Mar 1917 @ 08h01 Patrol or our lines West of Monchy

We were advised at briefing the winds were 8 kn from the west with scattered cumulous from 1219 to 2500 m.

I lead the flight with Saeger on wing, and Berr, Gontermann, Schneider, and Neisen accompanying. “Eins” flight sent Sturm, Nathanael, Baevers, Huber Weidenheimer and Bussing to assist.

We climb north of the field to form up at 2800 ft and then headed west. Upon reaching the lines we encountered 4 Nieuport 17’s of Esc LaF. We engaged them and after finishing off all four we found ourselves over Courcelles airfield and taking flak. I spotted 4 more enemy craft in the vicinity of Ablainzeville and reformed the kette and headed towards Riencourt aerodrome. As we were crossing the lines I looked back to spot my kette some distance back and I signalled to Saenger to turn back to close the gap. As they passed by I noticed a straggler that clearly wasn’t one of ours. It was a Nieuport chasing us and I engaged him immediately. During a headon pass I gave hims several bursts and at the last minute pulled up just in time to hear my wheels shredd his upper wing and send him down. I looked carefully around at my craft and everything seemed ok. I signalled to Saenger pointing to my wheels and he responded everything looked good. We continued our course to Reincourt and arriving there saw the airfield under attack by Sopwith Strutters of Esc 7. The rest of my flight went in to attack while I headed down to attempt a landing but in the process one of the strutters decided I was fair game and chased me down. I managed to land before he could get to me.

A short time later the rest of kette Eins arrived and my kette also landed.
Reporting in to the RO we were able to advise him we had driven down 5 Nieuport 17’s with only two craft slightly damaged and Neisen slightly wounded. Weidenheimer was missing and we had no report on him so far.

Well, back from a couple of weeks out of town, first mission I pull is recon, which leads us to discover a flight of Aviatiks headed towards our lines. I would have been much happier if it were a flight of Albatros scouts, even if those don't exist yet! Anyway, I try to time my attack so my squad mates will draw some of their fire...guess how that goes?

Final tally: I fired 152 rounds from the Lewis for one Aviatik driven down under no power (confirmed). There was 29 holes in my craft and two in me necessitating twenty days in the hospital... phew...

The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

They all got shot down and I was the only one alive trying to escape that hornet's nest.

On watching it again, I notice that after your engine stopped, you continue to fire with the prop directly in front of your MG. Good trick. Tony Fokker should hear of this.

...just dragging up this Thread.
This does not mean, that one has to put ALL Videos here - it's just a handy Option, if you've got a cool Video and no Idea where else to put it.

Jammer28;

That was an amazing piece of work in that vid Dance Macabre! Not only was the composition technically excellent, the story line continuity was and the timing of the vid cuts with the music was impeccable. You sir, are an artist extraordinaire! It is by far the best creative vid I have seen to date, and I have seen many here in the WOFF threads. I am in awe of your work! I hope you can find time for more. It is worth noting how apprapos the choice was as we approach Halloween.

Best Regards

Well done, Jammer! Nice playful cinematography, good matching to the music (especially the 'lights out' at the end) You obviously put some serious time into crafting this one.

Thanks so much to everyone. Throughout the forum I have had very little to contribute. A lot of points are made and questions asked that I never considered. The responses are informative and at times very humorous. They’re expressed so much better than what I could say. I enjoy reading the other threads and watching the videos posted and this is my meager way of contributing. I strive to make my videos as entertaining as the others here, yet a little different. Anyway, I’m happy y’all like it and thanks again.
