Nothing to see here... Is anything out of Beta? I thinks the Mirage is going to need a bigger Bra with that new "rack". Is it just me? Maybe I need to get out more...

You know, liveries have never been too important to me in a flight sim product. It seems like the community always quickly fills in that void shortly after release. I'd rather them put that effort into a really nice paint kit.
Still, glad to see things are coming together.

No offense to people like Tom who put a ton of work into it, but I've never cared much about them at all. I barely can tell what the plane I'm flying looks like from the outside anyway from the cockpit, and other planes are too far unless I'm taxiing past, flying in formation, or using external views when I'm bored. I'm not a screenshot taker type, and if I did it's more likely it would be a pit shot of a plane in my sights or a ground target I'm attacking than a posed beauty shot. Give me one proper skin for a plane for that country (I would likely never care if there was only one Brazilian skin and one French one) and I'm set. So as far as that goes, seeing 100 different skins for a plane is not a selling point to me.
It's why the need to unlock skins in BoS didn't faze me because I just don't care.

The Jedi Master I can see that. I'd say for me super accurate skins aren't a need to have, but are a very nice to have. I do like taking Screenshots as much as I like flying (Photography is a Hobby of mine too ) so cool skins helps change things up a bit. Plus, Tom needs to make us a USMC F-21 skin for this bird when she comes out

Yes, the oft-forgotten F-21! Still only ever flown it in SF1/2. The Jedi Master

I am sorry fellas, I have to disagree with you on the skins issue. I find skins immersive and entertaining. Maybe I read too many books or maybe I am becoming a rivet counter in my old age. Flying MiG-15 in Korea against F-86 I find it very immersive to have the right skins. I have South African Mustangs for that era and USAF Mustangs with the right markings. Its bad enough to only have on map. However the skins make me feel more in the mood of what I am flying. Some decent middle east skins will be nice to have when we get the Straights of Hormuz map. I appreciate how these guys work so hard to make these aircraft look.

Well considering I grew up flying sims with skins that looked like I was inculcated with the notion that the exteriors just aren't that important beyond IFF. I will add I found more immersion flying those than I do with the current crop of sims that seem more systems simulators than combat flight simulators. The Jedi Master

The Jedi Master I lot of it has to do with the power of imagination IMHO - you had to immerse yourself to make it believable, now you expect it to be believable.

If those older sims are truly superior aside from dated graphics that don't matter to you, why bother with the newer ones? I have always wanted the best possible simulator that the hardware can provide in every possible aspect. Great visuals are worthless if the physics match Atari 2600 Combat. Likewise, even the best of physics are worthless if all you see are blocky wireframes like Battlezone (which was awesome for its day). Great graphics and physics are easily rendered worthless if you can only fly using a tilt sensor or a mouse instead of a joystick or HOTAS. But any project has to have a budget. Time, money, and manpower are always limited. I will gladly trade some graphics fidelity for better physics and decent AI. But allowing hi-res, user-made skins is fairly easy to do these days, so why wouldn't you want to have the option to have any skin you want, historical or otherwise? Having somebody who puts out professional looking skins for free is an absolute blessing... or at least very nice icing for the cake. Necessary? No. Desirable? YES!!! Of course, if the product already comes with a great selection of high quality skins, I have no problem with that either.

I disagree. I find myself flying sims from the late 90's quite often when I want the "Career" aspect of being a pilot. Earlier this year I got Jane's F-15 running very well and the battlefield immersion is still excellent.
