Gee.... I always thought Hugh would die before his magazine would considering all the orgies he had in the 50s, 60s and 70s before safe sex. The staff at Playboy better start filling out their unemployment benefits forms. The magazine is going to go under once they stop publishing nude photos of women in its pages starting next March. There will still be photos of women in explicit poses but they won't be nude. If they think their current yearly circulation of 800,000 issues is low, it will get even lower. Sorry but there are magazines like that already: FHM, Stuff, Maxim. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2015...-porn/73856022/warning: autostart video on the usa today sitehttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/13/business/media/nudes-are-old-news-at-playboy.html?_r=0

Actually, according to an article on NPR, their sales are UP after taking all the nudie pics off the website.

I thought everybody bought Playboy "for the articles" I have not seen one in years but in the 70's & 80's they actually did have really good writing ( as well as the obvious eye candy ) ^this. I remember reading the short stories and interview in my dad's playboys when I was a teenager (as well as the pictures). I definitely think there's a market to return to those roots, to counter the "lad rags" that are Maxim, FHM, etc. There's definitely a place for the refined, well-read gentleman playboy, and hopefully that'll help slow the infestation of the boorish, obnoxious douchebag playboy that is currently celebrated in modern culture.

Maxim is pretty close to what Playboy used to be. Exactly. Playboy should just do what Sears has done and go into real estate speculation to make money while maintaining a facade that they are still doing their original business.

Print media in general is dying out and if there is a market out there for Playboy it's a very small niche one.
This is a classic example of a business trying desperately to reimage itself in order to stay relevant.

Maxim is pretty close to what Playboy used to be. But much lower brow in terms of actual content. Maxim was basically Buzzfeed before Buzzfeed was even a thing, combined with a bit of The Chive.

Do sailors these days tape their tablets to their lockers? That's an excellent question. But more accurately, do they put their tablets in waterproof cases and tape them to the sides of the shower? You know, because... scenery...

Playboy's major problem is that it became an outdated relic of the past. Its allure in the first couple of decades is that it was a very deviant publication when compared to the societal norms and morality of the time. It ceased being interesting once society changed and became more liberal and open with sexuality.

Actually, according to an article on NPR, their sales are UP after taking all the nudie pics off the website. Not what others are saying.. LINK The writing seemed to be on the wall. It was not a matter of if, but when Playboy stopped publishing nude photos. The rise of free internet pornography led to a steady decline in Playboys subscription base, with a circulation of around 5.6 million readers shrinking down to less than 1 million subscribers I used to subscribe a few years ago but their articles went so left or wouldn't pertain to anything close to what I liked I wouldn't even subscribe for the $1 an issue. I actually still had some in wrappers I asked my GF to sell on Ebay...

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."
