[rant on] Saw the season opener last night. I have two MAJOR problems with this dumb show. 1. Why has everyone suddenly forgotten about fire to destroy lots of zombies at once?!?! There are thousands of Z's corralled together in a huge quarry, held in by 4 tractor trailer trucks. Why the F would you try and herd them?!?! Ostensibly there is plenty of diesel fuel in the trucks (not to mention all the petrol in the cars they used to line the roads), so why not spray as much fuel as possible on the Z's then use the flare guns to light 'em up. In the initial burn the oils from the Z's bodies will keep the fire going and it will just spread and get them all. Also, any more Z's drawn to the fire will get burned up too. I mean they're in a quarry for God's sake, a giant huge pit, use it!
2. I am tired of the group vs other group plot line. It's been done in pretty much every apocolypse movie and has been done three times before on the show. In conjuction with that, new characters keep getting introduced that we're supposed to care about but don't because we know they're pretty much the red shirts of the show.
The Walking Dead stinks and I don't like it. I ain't watching any more episodes, they can stick it. [/rant off]
Of course they didn't wipe out all the walkers in the quarry with fire or any other means, if they did then how would the walkers attack Alexandria? You do know that is the point, right? They must attack Alexandria to advance the plot.
Would you keep watching if they always did the smart thing, killed all the walkers and were then safe from harm? What would be the point in that?

I was thinking fire too, but considering the size of the quarry, I don't think they could get nearly enough fuel. Then I figured they were going to lure them into the corridor of cars and set fire to them there, or some other way to kill them en masse, but no. I think they could've used the quarry more to their advantage along with the herding. If the walkers took out their own squashing them against the barriers, how about setting up a plank to drop them right back into the quarry somehow? Lead them up in a herd, through a trailer or something to funnel them, then let them push the ones in front right off.
There will always be factions, that's just human. Can't get away from that. I love the show and thought it was a good episode. I just hate that next week they'll just show the other part of the group and what they were doing while this week's show was going on. Maybe in 2 weeks we'll see how this plan ends up. I don't think creating a huge herd to set out like that was a good idea.
F4UDash4: Yeah, I know attacking Alexandria is the whole point of the plot. It's just been done over & over & over & over on this show... I was hoping for something new, an original story in this world, something exciting. It's just a stupid soap opera set in the zombie apocolypse, this one's plotting against Rick... teenage kid has angst about his dead dad (that beat him & his mom)... will weak guy finally man up... can Morgan bring Ricks humanity back... yyyyyyaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnn.
Raw Kryptonite: The fuel is to start the initial fire, the oils and some other fluids in all those bodies would keep it going for a long time. Think what happens when you roast a pig, all that greese, etc. Your idea of channeling the Z's up out of the quarry then back around and dropping them off the quarry cliff is brilliant, now ad F I R E!!! Mmmuuuuuhahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Walking Dead zombies have a very bad habit of coming out of fire looking like burned hotdogs - blackened with red peeking through the cracks. I wouldn't set fire to large groups of walkers as all one gets is a double threat of a zombie AND fire at the same time.
Personally I'd go with a liberated 81mm mortar. No, it won't kill them, but walkers that can't walk aren't as much as a threat. What one really needed was some 105mm rounds with variable time fuses.
What I can't stand is the whole issue of Rick's "humanity." Um, Rick is very humane in his treatment of people in his group. He is altruistic to a fault in thinking of how his actions will further their survival.
Others not so much, but that's the nature of the beast. He's not setting people traps (like Terminus or the Wolves), he doesn't torture people, he is pretty up-and-down in dealing with others, and is fair.
Carol continuously gets a pass on her "humanity," though she's made tougher choices than Rick. She took it on herself to kill the first two with the fever in the prison in an effort to stop the epidemic before it became one. She realized that Lilly - a child - simply couldn't be trusted around anyone due to her mental illness and executed her.
She, like Rick, didn't do any of those things because she liked it - she did it because she had to.
So long as it's framed that way - doing bad things because they're the only way to keep the good - I don't see any loss of "humanity."

I had never heard of "Z nation", might have to check that out!
And the last episode of TWD was really good!

The wife watches Z Nation and I've caught snippets of it. Looks pretty good.
Then again, she watched both Walking Dead and Game of Thrones before I did.
A bit of explanation: My wife watches a lot of "garbage" TV that I can't stand, mostly shows with "Top" in their titles like Top Chef, Top Designer, etc., and my testosterone levels cause an allergic reaction to them. Therefore we tend to watch very different things when alone, and sometimes she hits on very good television but keeps it to herself.

Okay I posted that on 10/20, set my DVR to record all episodes of Z Nation that night. Apparently they were having some sort of marathon so I had a bunch of episodes recorded within a few days, then I realized that was season 2! So I found Z Nation on Netflix and watched all of season 1 in about a week and just finished watching the last (so far) season 2 episode.
It's a cool series! Lots of fun, no long serious talks about "life" when the characters should be hurrying to complete a job like always happens on TWD. I even like the low budget look! Anyone else notice the highway traffic in the background in the Roswell episode? LOL

As good as TWD is, I think Z Nation is more entertaining in general. They don't lead you by the nose from week to week with cliffhangers and drawing things out annoyingly like TWD. It mirrors TWD some though, like the storyline about the massive Z-nami herd. They handled it much better than Rick's crew--dump them in the Grand Canyon. LOL
First sorry for my english (i'm not a native speaker and my grammar is meh)...
Second; Why not use some reenactment group in the show?, for example just before everything went to hell, a group of 50 men is in a preparation to a "roman legion reenactment show" and they knew to fight ala Roman way, sure thing they can kick some zombie ass and train another "citizens" with the techniques to fight properly.
Sure thing they can mix Roma's tech with modern one, instead of pylumns some shotguns or motorcycles instead of horses, don't know. But isn't uncommon see this kind of groups in real life; something different than the over used and boring zombie-drama show.

My lad and i grabbed the first three seasons when we were both sick with the flu, pass the time in front of the box, proper sick..doonahs and pillows on the lounge type of sick. By the end of season one i was struggling, season two ep 2 or 3 and we were done. The youtube parodies save it though
Season 1 average number of viewers: 5.24 million Season 2 average number of viewers: 6.90 million Season 3 average number of viewers: 10.4 million Season 4 average number of viewers: 13.3 million Season 5 average number of viewers: 14.4 million
Seems the haters are in the minority.
