Yeah, Mostert's crash is testament to how much motorsport safety has improved over the years. To have the car tear apart like that, losing wheels, doors and even the diff but come out with only a couple of broken bones is amazing.
Track marshals must be thankful for barriers and catch fences too!
I don't think Whincup's lap counts as the fastest ever though. The GTs in the 12 Hour managed 2:02s and 2:03s. And Jenson Button pulled of a 1:48 or something in an F1 demonstration car a few years ago.
